I'm a big fan of liquid seaweed concentrate. Often in combination with a pothos cutting added to the propagation vessel.

I believe alocasia/colocasia propagate via corms only not cuttings.
From the photo it looks like just a cut leaf, yes? If so, there's no nutrient or rooting hormone that will get that guy to root. I'm so sorry!
Perhaps whoever gave you the cutting can give you a corm the next time they repot the fella.

No doubt he still appreciated the love and attention...he just had one foot in the compost pile.
I'd still recommend checking out the pothos tag. If I have one available, I pretty much pop in a single leaf pothos cutting into whatever else I'm propagating.
