I have found that when you give the plant a gentle shake or lay it on the ground, the stem can become slightly damaged. If you see white sap coming out of the wounds, that is a good sign. This simulates the cutting of the stem, and over time, you will see new shoots branching out from the stem near those areas. I inadvertently did this when I was repotting the plant or sometimes moving it into new positions in the house.
Cutting the plant and then placing the cutting near the base is a good way to start it off . The cuttings might take a bit longer to grow roots but the main plant will start to grow leaves and branches in a few months time.
