Prop box ideas!?
I would love to see some prop box ideas. Bonus points if you prop in small pots/cups vs a layer of substrate, because I usually prop that way.
Whatโa a good size box for you? Do you like a sealed box with a moisture seal or a looser fitting lid? Tell me a setup you like! Iโd love to see a pic.

I will snag some pictures later. Mostly commenting becauseโฆcat! ๐
And because I am actually just in the process of making a larger prop box.
My current method has been lots of small takeout containers, with lids, vent holes and then those are inside my greenhouse house. And because itโs inside my greenhouse, I usually have to leave the lids. Open a little bit as they get super humid.
For my new non greenhouse prop box Iโm using a clear plastic container like the one that I attached via picture. And then inside of that I am using individual clear plastic dessert cups for each plant with whatever substrate I use (which is typically sphagnum moss, leca, pon or perlite). the lid on this box is def not sealed, so Iโm curious to see how the humidity levels go. Iโm not planning on putting these in my greenhouse because my house is so cold. I am planning on occasionally having them on a heat mat.

Personally I love the little plastic cups you can buy anywhere, or the plastic cups from my cat's wet food containers ๐ both are short enough I can fit them many places.
My next one will either be a large plastic bin with some holes or a mini Ikea greenhouse with a grow light. Either way I may put down a layer of leca in the bottom and then set containers on it to keep humidity up.

@M0ll1fied tell me about it my greenhouse cabinet is totally at capacity now ๐ I was originally doing little prop bags with a box in the bottom in and out of my greenhouse depending on space and sometimes on a heat mat. Planning a bigger box will help with some of the same issues too.
I love propping in the little cups, the plants (especially the small ones) can just continue staying in there for a while.

@PlantMompy Iโve almost used my 200 pack of little cups in a few months ๐
but Iโm pretty much always use 2 at a time for drainage/resevoir. But Iโve taken to hoarding random clear ups from going out. ๐คฃ
I noticed a lot of people will keep leca in their cabinets for humidity, but mine do just fine with sealing without it.

I do the same! It's why I keep the cups from the cat food, they are the perfect saucers and I don't have to go buy them since my Chonk goes through two a day ๐
I think my biggest issue has been what to do when the props get taller.
Maybe find something you can put on the top of your cabinet that looks aesthetically pleasing?

@PlantMompy I was thinking one of those small akerbar greenhouse, but the white one only comes in a small and I was worried I would immediately fill it. And some people said theyโre more annoying to seal up.
I was almost thinking a I could just start with a bigger clear storage box and affix a light and fan inside like the cabinet, which wouldnโt be very complicated at all.
That was kind of my thinking on height issues when I was asking for preference to propping in cups. Cause the perlite/moss boxes can stay pretty flat.

@GaryPoopins he is quite the handsome fellow.
@Alinaa I love it when cats find ways to entertain themselves, as long as they don't get destructive.
He is definitely a handsome guy.

I agree on all. I ended up with the small Akerbar because I didn't want black.
I haven't tried to seal it yet because it's holding around 70-80% since I moved in alocasias in leca. I'm sure I will seal it but I'm not rushing.
I love this channel, she talks about how she seals hers and how she added more space, she makes both sound easy ๐

@PlantMompy I used her baggebo build as a starting point for mine, especially for the window sealing stuff and cable hiders, but I did it quite a bit differently in the end cause thatโs what you do when youโre a designer/fabricator type with an entire workshop. ๐ But her channel is hilarious I love her videos. Sometimes I get caught on a tangent and just start rewatching them.
@UltraKoreanfir fortunately heโs only destructive if Iโm looking at him. ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ heโs so weird.
@PlantMompy hehe, except it can be bad cause I tend to over diy things when I probably could just buy it or make it simpler and not become an expert on it. ๐ I wish I could keep some plants there, but itโs either like 90 degrees in the summer and winter or 50 degrees in the fall. ๐คฃ
@Michelle5986 my cabinet works so well, but I ran out of space ๐
๐
@Alinaa itโs beautiful regardless!
@Alinaa I totally understand that I just had to buy a new cabinet because I ran out of space in my first one lol
@Michelle5986 i may go tomorrow to get another cabinet ๐๐
@Alinaa I got lucky and found mine off fb marketplace lol but I want a new one already lol
@Michelle5986 hahaha I mean I could look on marketplace but I am impatient
@Alinaa I totally understand that for sure lol I am very impatient myself lol
@KDkat3 Kadie itโs looking amazing!๐ @Alinaa I found these prop boxes at Walmarts online store and they are the perfect prop boxes to use with stratum! They keep really high humidity inside and plants absolutely thrive. Walmart sells several different sizes, Iโve got all mine filled only with stratum, itโs the only medium Iโll ever put in it ๐ I broke the top for the largest one so had to improvise with the milsbo shelves I no longer use haha
