What is happening?!
Hi plant fam! I got this plant via mail a few weeks ago and it looked beautiful when it arrived (see plant profile pic - that was the day of delivery!) but ever since, itβs been yellowing and dropping awful-looking leaves each day. At first I thought the soil was too damp and the roots were too wet, so I removed from the pot to let them dry out but itβs only getting worse. What is wrong with this Hoya?
1ft to light, indirect
4β pot without drainage
Last watered 3 months ago
Maybe @MusicalRedmint can help you. She had beautiful Hoyas!!
Sounds like stem rot, especially if it progresses rapidly. In that case you will need to " restart" the plant and hope it hasn't spread to fart up.
Cut the stem above the soil with clean pruners and take a look of it's still healthy. Thankfully the Lisa produces white sap so this should be pretty clear: if you see white sap emerging immediately everything is fine.
If not, it's already rotting and you should make another cut further up. As soon as you find the sap, you can take the cutting, let it dry a bit (if you want to be careful), and then put it in a prop box or a similar setup to reroot. I love ziplock bags with damp moss or perlite for it, or just a box with a lid and perlite. Most hoyas are famous for their fast rooting, so many even just put cuttings in the soil directly.
Some last notes: having more leaves oftentimes can mean slower root growth at first. So sometimes it's best to cut bigger cuttings into smaller ones. They should however have one we two nodes and be cut directly above a node.
It might also just be root rot. But since that is hard to judge from afar and stem rot can be a quick killer, I would reroot, if it were mine.
Master of fact i just did exactly that. Day before yesterday, also with one of my Lisas π it happens.
Also: there are two plants in your pot, so it goes without saying that only the one that is dropping the leaves should be cut.π
Good luck.
