From gritty to soil
I am probably gonna buy a lophora diffusa but Inotice the grower uses clay based soil which is very rocky and has essentially 0 dirt I’ve heard people call it hard growing however I’ve killed every plant I’ve ever tried to grow in this type of soil. Any opinions o t the impact of a plant grown in this soil for multi years suddenly being moved to a dry but dirt based soil? #SucculentSquad #CactusClique #SucculentLove
@CedarMyers I used to have a 2x2 foot grow tent with a dimmable grow light and fan humidity was fairly low I think like 10% always used terracotta pots, I tried using cactus jack gritty soil it killed 9-10 lithops (they never absorbed any water and just dried up and died of several months) and 3 echeveria before I gave up on it and never used it again (I was even watering ther echeverias everyday and they still dried up and died) and stuck to rabbit hill farm. I now live in Thailand and I grow cactuses in regular soil (I can’t read Thai so I can’t read much but it’s dirt based not 100% rocks) on a balcony in nursery pots and a few I’m guessing hardened clay pots, no protection from the sun or wind (I’m on 22nd floor so it gets bit windy and the plants can lose fluff). In USA and Thailand I water on the weekend if not dirt based soil I bottom water if it’s rock based I top water as rocks have no ability to absorb water up
@vvvelo I think you as well use rabbit hill, did you ever buy a plant and found it was raised on 100% gritty soil? How did it transition to more dirt based soil?
