Browning leaves and just not happy ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

My black bat flower is not doing well and I'm not sure what the problem is... I tried moving her to a shadier spot but then she wasn't drying out between waters and got a bit of a fungus in addition to the browning leaves. So I moved her back but she's still just not happy. I'm not sure what the problem is. Maybe water quality?

Hmm haven't had the pleasure of keeping these beauties yet, have a risome I'm working on (basically 0 progress in 2 months but it's definitely alive) and have ordered some seeds.

From my reading, direct sunlight is definitely a nono and will burn leaves. But it also may be due to lack of humidity.... is she indoors or out? I wonder if she's out thay your florida climate might be too dry ๐Ÿ˜…

The do like higher humidity, so keeping her near water features, on a wet pebble try, frequent misting should probably help with the drying.

For the fungus, it might be that in the shader spot needs to have faster draining soil to prevent sitting in too moist water for too long.

I haven't heard much regarding water quality but could be?

Please keep us updated and lmk if any of this help!!
But always remember, these guys are tricky.... never seen a healthy one in a store (and seeing one is super rare) and the only flowering one I've seen was at the Eden project....
Emjay, what does your watering schedule look like for Queen? Do you let the top inch or two of soil dry out before each watering?
@theloveofplants Greg has me watering every 3 days, but I'm also checking the top two inches are dry each time too.
@GuruYellowrose hmm ๐Ÿค” That is interesting. Sometimes we have to adapt our watering schedule along with Greg. Greg is always learning through the input we put into the app. I have had to โ€œsnoozeโ€ some of my waterings because the plant was NOT even close to being ready for another watering yet.

Is you stick your finger in the soil about and inch deep. Once you pull your finger out, is there any dirt on your finger?
