Next level tips for plant care?
In an attempt to be a better plant parent, I looked for more info about my Alocasia Stingray. Today I learned it's normal for it to only have a few leaves at a time when it's young and the oldest leaf naturally dies back when a new one grows. So glad it's the plant and not me, lol π
fertilizer is particularly important during growing season as apparently it's a hungry plant and this will help it grow bigger so it can eventually sustain more leaves. I've been giving mine a low dose of seaweed fertilizer over the year I've had it and it seems happy so far. Now I just need the patience for it to get bigger! πΏ Plant friends, what have you learned from having this particular plant that has helped you successfully care for it?

@PolarPlantLady thanks, Sonja! I'll keep an eye out for it!
@PolarPlantLady thatβs my favorite stuff! Especially for my alocacia. I can keep more than three leaves at a time π
@Azplantchic good to know, Nikki! Mine only maintains 2-3 leaves at a time but it started with six when I first got it. So I know it's capable of more π€
Any drooping leaves, get rid of them once you notice them if they donβt perk up with a watering! I cannot recommend enough putting it into a semi-hydro setup where you have about 1/3 LECA at the bottom, and 2/3 wet sphagnum moss. Water should fill up to about 1/2 through the LECA and not touch the sphagnum. Iβve been in the process of transporting my alocasias into it, and while itβs an intensive process, the ones that are already in it are extremely happy! Just got a Stingray too, praying for its survival. Best of luck!!
@MilkNewt thanks for the tips, Milo! This is the only alocasia I have so semi-hydro might be interesting to try out!
Edit: also, do you find that cutting the drooping leaves speeds up leaf production?

@ballondusoleil I also have a stingray that wonβt keep more than 3leaves! I donβt know the solution yet, but think I. Red to repot mine because it seems to be drying out very quickly.
@nellz4estfairyz best of luck with your stingray! They look so cool. Can't wait for it to keep more than 3 leaves ππ€
@ballondusoleil we can start the 3 leaf club! Some of my Alocasias would be lucky to even have 3 leaves! π although I have to say most of them are showing new growth now that the weather is improving.
@nellz4estfairyz sounds like a new hashtag for sure! I'm in!
@ballondusoleil #3LeafClub it is then! π€ͺπ€£
