According to Greg my peyote needs 28 mL of water each wat...
is that some kind of succulent? i donβt usually water the exact same amount as suggested by greg bc itβs a bit too much trouble for me to measure out precisely. imo the pot is quite a bit bigger than the plant themself so you could just water around the base of the plant rather than soaking the whole pot :)
You should always soak a succulents pot until its running out the bottom. A thorough watering is needed every 1 weeks to every 2 months, according to season & type. Thorough watering us great for your plant, watering too often is what causes root rot, untimately killing them. If you are using the right gritty mix soil, it should begin drying in a couple days & completely dry by at least 7-10 days. The frequency should be very accurate, not the amount. I use 2 part cactus mix, 1 part perlite, 1 part sand & 1/2 part crushed lava rock. Soil means everything.
I've always felt the button, if it feels slightly squashy and soft to the touch it probably wants a drink, if it's stiff and turgid it's likely OK. And always thought best practice was to let the taproot search for water by sitting the pots in water to soak upwards for a good few hours and not watering from above. They'll be sweetπ
Just give it a heavy watering whenever the soil is completely dry. LW is notoriously killed from overwatering by people. You can check the soil with chopsticks. If they come out clean its usually dry enough. I have all my larger ones in a 70/30 way more towards coarse mix because I live in the NW, and so it has to be very well draining soil. As long as your soil is well draining and you only water when dry, then it really doesn't matter how much water you give it as it will expel the extra from the bottom as long as your pot has drainage. I put my seedling in a slightly finer mix to hold water a little more.
