Hi Jacqui...
The watering schedule on Greg is not always accurate, as each individual's home environment is different.
For smaller plants 🪴, you can lift it and if it's lighter then time to water.
A good idea is to water from the bottom as this will guarantee against root rot.
For larger plants, you can stick a chopstick or your index finger in the topsoil about 2" deep. If it comes out dry, it's time to water.
I've been using a water meter for several years and find it to be spot on.
One important tip: never mist your plants!
In doing so, it doesn't benefit the plant but will eventually harm it.
When the topsoil is continously moist from misting, it could create bacterial and fungal infections.
It's also an open door invitation to pesky, obnoxious fungus gnats, which multiply quickly and are a real pain!
Good luck on your plant journey and have fun!

@MaximalRedcap37 I have two birkins. My plants are in 6 inch pots and they get one cup of water every 7-10 days . Greg is estimating how much water is needed by the size of your pot which is 10 inches from the notes on your card so 2 1/2 cups seems about right, however, if the soil is not dry, you can snooze the watering recommendation for a few days. Also your Birkin leaves are all green which means it’s not getting enough light to produce variegation. The curling leaves are normal. That is how new philo leaves usually unfurl. I’ve attached some photos of my other philos so you can see the curling leaves are normal.

Hi Michelle...
Your Birkin is beautiful 😍.
Mine is throwing the occasional white leaf, which ends up rotting, otherwise he's quite healthy.
Do you have any idea 💡 🤔 as to why the white leaves 🍃 and perhaps a remedy?
I just now took this photo.
I've experimented with light, but that doesn't seem to be the problem.

@CutePolypremum thank you!! What I know is that when pure white leaves appear, it’s a symptom of that leaf not making enough chlorophyll to photosynthesize so the leafy will eventually brown and die off. It can be caused by too much bright light or it can be caused by environmental factors. But I agree with you, your plant is super healthy so I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

Thanks so much for your reply!!!!
It's reassuring to know that he is otherwise healthy.
My Birkie is directly under a gro light and I may move him a little to experiment.
Birkies are fascinating!

Oh gosh!
I woke up in the middle of the night with this thought:
It's very important that all of our plants 🪴 receive the best water.
Tap water will eventually kill a plant because of the harsh chemicals that are added to it.
Rain, distilled, or water that comes from a pure well will keep your plants happy and healthy 😊
