Propagation fail

This is the second time I tried to propagate the #polkadotplant in water and it's not working for me πŸ₯².

Any alternative methods that work well for this plant? Still got another one that needs to be pruned✨

@ScarletMoon the same happened to me when I tried to propagate, although I tried soil propagation (after watching a YouTube video that made it look convincingly simple πŸ™„) Within a day the leaves had completely shriveled up. Mine is due for another prune, and I'm trying water propagation this time. I read that polka dot plants are annuals, and the only way to keep them going beyond a year or so is to propagate, so I really hope it works this time!

One thing to consider...did you use tap or distilled water? If tap, you might want to try distilled instead. I've switched over to using distilled for all my water propagations and so far, so good 😊
Too many leaves. Try decrease the number for leaves per cutting.
How many should they have? Should I remove the ones in the last node or the last two nodes? (This is one of the ones that I had in water)
@ScarletMoon remove all lower sets of leaves, only "leave" the top set πŸ˜›
Remove the leaves I've crossed out in the pic
@stephonicle thank you so much 🫢❀️, yeah I do use tap water or rain water, but so far all my other water propagation went well. I'll try to propagate it with less leaves 😊✨ Also, didn't know they were anual, now I feel better about the one I thought I killed two years ago πŸ˜‚
@ScarletMoon oh, I just thought of something else! I remember seeing that polka dot plants lose more water through their leaves than most plants (which is why the leaves often shrivel). It said to create a humidity dome-type enclosure w/ plastic wrap or a plastic cup to trap in moisture, like what you'd use with seedlings. Just keep it out of direct sun (so it doesn't bake) and let it breath everyday.
@stephonicle makes sense, I'll try it 😊✨, thank you so much for all your help πŸ₯Ήβ€οΈ
Same happened to me the last time I tried to propagate in water. I'm going to try again because it definitely needs it and will take the advice of @stephonicle and just leave the very top leaves.
@NCC1701 gorgeous plant!
Thanks.
@NCC1701 it’s beautiful!
Thank you @BlessedWoodruff. Just chopped her. Hoping the props will root and not shrivel.
Meet Mufasa my Lion's mane mini copper plant & Lolita my new 2 string of dolphin to go with her big sister Lola..Thank you Hirt's gardening for replacing my Lion's mane mini copper plant & string of dolphin when my the 2 originals came in poor condition & died 3 days ago! These 2 are healthy & happy! Thank you again for for replacing them! I love them! ❀️
@stephonicle I had no hope for the pink polka dots cuttings, but one bounced back after removing the leaves 😊, thank you again 🫢✨
I was told to put a small cutting into a two inch pot moist with dirt and then put it into a ziplock bag and blow into the bag and seal it. Keep away from hot window for a few weeks and this may work. I did open the zip lock bag and misted the plant and put more air in and sealed it back up. It’s worth a try
So, @ScarletMoon and @stephonicle, y'all want to know just how humid it is in Columbia SC? 1st 2 pics are of my propagation putting them on my screened in porch after 1 day. I brought them inside after seeing that but just didn't get around to tossing them. Pic 3 is what I woke up to this morning. Unbelievable!
Greg reversed the pic order I see. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
@NCC1701 my cuttings are inside πŸ˜‚ I didn't even think about putting them outside with this hot weather 🫠

I think Greg uploads the photos in the opposite way as you select them πŸ€”
@NCC1701 oh lawdy 😳 Yep, I'm all too familiar with Columbia! The muggiest, most miserably hot & humid place in the summer πŸ₯΅ just thinking about it makes me sweat lol
@stephonicle in the world as far as I'm concerned. πŸ₯΅
