Am I over or under watering?

I've watered my bougainvillea twice since I got it (about a week and a half ago). The leaves are soft and droopy and have fallen off drastically. The soil feels super dry, but the leaves got more yellow after I last watered it.

This is my first bougainvillea so Im unsure. It's still pretty warm here where I live (mid to high 90s) but I will keep an eye on it. Thanks
