Help troubleshooting why new prayer plant leaf is very pa...

Prayer plant owners....In humid cloudy weather what's the longest you've gone without watering a Maranta leuconeura and had it been happy?

It's been unusually humid and cloudy in Los Angeles for the last two weeks. I usually water my prayer plant every 7-9 days with normal humidity levels/sunshine... But it's been 14 days since the last watering and the top soil is still moist.

I'm wondering if it's lack of sunlight or nutrients or water logging from the gloomy weather (or all three) that's making the leaf pale...

I usually give I a low dose liquid fertilizer every 2-3 weeks while is growing and it's overdue for a feeding now.

It's still pushing out leaves but I fear they will all be pale if the weather doesn't perk up soon. ๐Ÿ˜”

I was considering getting a supplemental grow light for when it's all May gray and June gloomy here.

Anyone else supplement with a growlight when it's overcast? #prayerplant #maranta #marantaleuconeura #freshleaffriday #helpneeded #plantsmakepeoplehappy

When the plant isnโ€™t drying out as expected even with weird weather, thereโ€™s often issues with root rot. Mine is going through some mild rot and is rerooting, and pushed out a weird leaf like this recently. Think itโ€™s just one of those hang in there things will waiting to it to dry things.

Grow lights are always nice, I supplement my windows with them since I donโ€™t have great natural light.
Hey! I agree itโ€™s probably waterlogging. You could definitely try a grow light as itโ€™ll help with the light but also with drying the soil out more quickly! ๐ŸŒฑโ˜€๏ธโค๏ธ
@Alinaa @RealSimpleMama That make sense! ๐Ÿ’ฏ

I definitely potted it to hang with dryer weather. ๐Ÿ˜•

The moiture meter was still at a 10 most if the way thru. ๐Ÿ˜ณ ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ...

I'll remove the bark chip mulch on top and turn the bedroom fan up until I get a clip on grow light.

Also, next watering I'm gonna try this natural soil drench fungicide by Bonaide called "Revitalize" I've been using it for my poor succulents who are trying to hang outside in this humidity! ๐ŸŒฅ ๐ŸŒง๏ธ ๐Ÿ˜“

I've had good results so far w/the product, it's seems to be keeping my plants fungus & mold free...

I'll know more in a couple weeks when there's more new growth after the treatment, but worth a try with the prayer plant too! ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ

Thanks, ladies! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™โ™ฅ๏ธ
Wow this is so helpful, im having the same issue with my ownโ€” i thought i was underwatering!!! Couldnt find anything anywhere on why it was sprouting pale leaves besides them just being โ€œnewโ€. and im definitely gonna check out that fungicide!
@roxyvivien @plantjam

Iโ€™m also using something similar now called hydroguard (same type of stuff, but not sure the bonide one works in semihydro which I have some of my plants in). It works by breaking down bad organic matter (like root rot) and converting it to nutrients for the plant! Pretty neat.

Also using another thing called orca mycorrhizae, which has more good bacterias and mycorrhizae which are fungii that have a symbiotic relationship with the roots helping uptake. They have another in powder form which I think is even better (called great white) but the mixing levels seemed a little harder to manage than the liquid.

I try to put plants in clear pots to keep an eye on roots now, and plants are growing some nice healthier and fluffy roots since I have added these!
@Alinaa Nice! Thanks for the recs. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ˜Š I'll have to do some research on how those products work w/ succulents, which is 95% of what I grow.

Definitely can't use clear pots with my succs - although that's a great idea for more water hungry plants...

I don't think they've figure out how to make clear terracotta or cement yet, but maybe someday! Lol ๐Ÿ˜„
@roxyvivien ha of course. I trust my plants in terracotta will just air themselves out ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜… I originally just bought the things from my research for Hoyas in semihydro, but noticed all the bottles had directions for soil as well, so I figured why not try it. Wish I learned about these products sooner, theyโ€™re really helping get better roots on plants!
