How to check for pests?

#PeaceLily

The most common pests for Peace Lillies are Fungus Gnats, Spider Mites, Mealybugs. Fungus Gnats: You’ll see them flying around. Solution: Bottom water your plants. Fungus Gnats tend to lay eggs & hatch in the top portion of soil. Spider Mites: You’ll see brown/red spots on your leaves & webbing in between. Solution: Neem oil concoction. Mealybugs: Cottony masses in between the leaves & stems (typically on the underside of the leaf). Solution: Neem oil concoction.
It’s great to be proactive and catch pests before you have an infestation. Having a powerful magnifying glass or a small hand held microscope even is very useful! Small brown or white specs can then be observed a little closer to check what’s going on. Resident plant mum @SuperbRaspfern suggests that if you do find pests such as spider mites (my main pest issue at the moment!) or thrips, you wage war by spraying with a homemade spray every 3 days for 3 to 6 weeks depending on the pest and the extent of the infestation. The spray is basically 1 tbsp liquid castille soap to 1 gallon of water :)
To check for certain pests I gently tap leaves onto a piece of paper. If you have spider mites you will see them crawling around (gross). I also have a magnifying glass that I use to inspect my plants with. Also take a look at your soil it looks pretty wet so you may have an overwatering issue.
When you say need oil β€œconcoction” what is the concoction? Something added to the need oil?
