What are these white things?!

I’m freaking out! I saw these in the water reservoir of my zebra plant! What are they? My plant is now outside sitting in time out and I’m thoroughly washing the pot!!!

@RootWrangler how did they move? I’m not an expert, but based on the vague outline in this photo, and the fact that they were in the bottom of the reservoir, I would surmise that they are springtails—a beneficial insect that a lot of people are happy to see. I have plenty in my pots. They are on cleanup duty. They like it humid and damp (therefore you will most often find them in the bottom layers of soil or in the saucer/reservoir), and they eat mold and plant parts that are already rotting. They don’t eat live plants, only the bits that are already decomposing.

I think of them as mama’s lil helpers, and there are even plant and animal people that raise springtails so that they have more of them to disperse among their plants, terrariums, or certain animal enclosures (e.g. reptiles, amphibians, ) They are essential to a healthy ecosystem! So, congratulations! 🍾🎊
@RootWrangler here are some examples
@DreamMachine they looked like the white ones in the middle, the onychuridae
@RootWrangler that’s the one I thought looked close 👍 I also remember freaking out when I first discovered them. But they are actually really good! They clean where you can’t 🧼😄
@DreamMachine ok thank you!
@RootWrangler my pleasure 😊
