Why is my plant turning white?
Like the title said, I noticed my plant is turning white and loosing its leaves. Is it too much water? I don't think I've watered it too much... #succulentsquad #succulents #help
2β pot without drainage
Last watered 3 years ago
@hoyahead Ah crap.
I actually got them under a grow light because there is a scaffolding in front of my window right now and they weren't getting any sun at all.
I'll move them away from it then. Thanks for the feedback!

@impeplants I donβt know why but darker exheverias tend to like less light than lighter ones and are thus more prone to sunburn
@Lithopslover that must be why it's the only one in my arrangement that is having trouble π I didn't think a grow light would do this. All my other plants seem to be just fine with it.
I don't really know what to do because of these scaffoldings blocking all my light π

@impeplants fret not! Just move your succulent a little farther away from the grow light. For example, maybe you could try moving it 1ft back from wherever it is currently, if the issue persists go back another 1ft, etc. Youβll have to experiment with it! Light decreases rapidly from foot-to-foot, so usually a minor adjustment is all thatβs needed π
@hoyahead unfortunately, the table it's on is too short to do this π
I think I'll move it to another space where I have my second grow light but higher than the one it had.
@impeplants I agree with @lazyplantparent. π―
@Lithopslover Great info! Iβll remember this. β€οΈ
@vvvelo oh no π I really hope I caught it in time and that it will recover
@impeplants I recommend you to check this plant from the side. In my case Iβve noticed that my Purpusorum was rotting on one side. So I hope you donβt have it.
@vvvelo I don't see any rot but I'll check every day to be sure
@impeplants I hope then this is just lack of light π‘ and it is possibly to fix the coloring by putting this plant into nice bright spot.
@vvvelo it actually got too much light π
I put it further away from the window and grow light it was under. And I'm crossing my fingers π€
@impeplants hm⦠this Echeveria needs bright sunlight
@vvvelo it was under a grow light since I can't get the right lightning in my apartment right now (scaffoldings obscuring the whole room as you can see in the picture).
Everyone else said it was getting too much light π€·

@impeplants the grow light itβs a good option. But it also depends on if that growlight gives correct brightness and color temperature of the light. Succulents like bright white βday lightβ type of grow lights. Here is short explanation
@vvvelo my lamp is 3000 to 5000k, it has white, red and warm light. I keep all the lights on at 50% for 9h. Maybe it's too much light still or too long
@impeplants do you keep it on for more than 12 hours? Cuz 12hrs is ok for succulents.
@vvvelo just 9 hours. It automatically stops after 9 hours
@impeplants I keep my succs under growlights for 12hrs.
@vvvelo that's super weird that it's turning white then π€ I really don't get it
@vvvelo are you thinking of some pests? Or over watering?
@impeplants Iβm thinking of overwatering. Cuz this is what I did to my Purpusorum, and it had same spots on the leaves too. Tbh, I would try to do next steps: 1- Iβd remove this plant from the pot. 2- wash off all dirt from the roots. 3- inspect the roots.4- if everything looks fine, then I would keep plant in dry bright spot for 5 days. 5- repot it into NEW dry succulents mix soil.
@vvvelo is it possible that it didn't like getting some water on its leaves? I remember accidentally getting some water on it when watering it last time.
I've watered the whole arrangements only twice since potting it a month ago and I checked that the soil was dry before watering.
Do you think I could put it back in the arrangements after the 5 days?

@impeplants by default - YES - succulents do not like when there is water on their leaves. As a result they start to rot. Iβd say, do not put it into arrangement at this moment. There is definitely something going on with your Dionysus.
@vvvelo @impeplants This was happening to my Gasteraloe (first pic), turning semi-white in the middle.
I realized the problem was that my plant was getting too much direct sun (or light), but not enough water. You can kind of see it on the right where itβs a little white-ish.
Iβm also having this issue with an Aloe (2nd pic). He was turning white, then brown, and now heβs turning back to his normal green.
This happens to my plants because their soil is very dry, the pot theyβre in is VERY dry and I donβt water frequently to avoid rotting. My problem is that I donβt water enough and they get too much light.
Personally, you succulent doesnβt look like pests damage (that I can tell from pic) but it does look like itβs struggling with some type of light and watering issue.

@impeplants Personally I would place it under a different grow light. Itβs possible that the grow light is putting out too much and its harming the plant. Keep up with watering, water only when the soil is dry and keep an eye π it may be a week or so before you start noticing any changes, but good luck! π€π½β¨πΏ
@kscape thank you! I'll try that and cross my fingers all goes well!
