Hey Sophia!!! With that new leaf uncurling, it’s leading me to believe the plant is consuming it’s oldest leaf to feed the new one. This is a totally normal behavior for Alocasias, especially if you don’t do a little fertilizer with every watering. Best thing to do right now is to wait until it’s entirely wilted, and then cut it off. Best of luck!
Oh no! 🙈 Okay, let’s get into this; tell me everything about this buddy! 😉 ( I mean; seriously, the more information, the better. 🤣) So let’s start at square one; when you say you are keeping up with the watering, do you mean you water when your app says or when you check the soil? Usually, this is caused by overwatering, but it’s not always the case. So drainage; what’s that like? Do you have a well-draining soil and pot? How is air circulation and humidity on it as well? Lastly, what kind of light is it getting and for how long?
@Idplantthat so i just got it pretty recently so ive only watered once, i did it when the app told me to, and when i checked, the soil was dry. the pot has drainage and i think the soil is good too. it’s in my bedroom and i have a humidifier that im able to use, but i haven’t set it up yet. and its facing a south window, like 3 feet away.
@newplantgirlies that sounds perfect! 👌 So if you got it more recently, it’s really not uncommon for them to dramatically one way, but as Milo said, it’s unfurling a leaf right now. Those are good signs. Yellowing can be a lack of nutrients; humidity imbalance - Alocasia’s can adjust to lower humidity levels, but they prefer 60-80% humidity 😉 but yellowing can also be age; if you want to clip it off at the base, to encourage more growth and let the plant focus on fully adjusting to its new environment. I usually let mine hang out in the pots they came in for at least a month before doing anything else. But it sounds like you got all the right tools for success; keep it posted and best of luck. Alocasias are super addicting plants 😂
@MilkNewt @Idplantthat thank you guys for the help!! i really appreciate it, i’m new to plant care and don’t know much so i can’t thank you guys enough for the help! milo, i’ll take your advice and just let it wilt and then chop! would you guys recommend using the humidifier for it as it gets warmer?
@newplantgirlies Absolutely! Always happy to help :) and for the humidifier, huge thumbs up, yes a thousand times. Humidifiers are awesome for Alocasias year-round honestly, especially if your ambient moisture is low
@newplantgirlies definitely add your humidifier; you’ll see a big difference with them. Here is some of mine. I have a few in my kitchen that are happy. I generally have a humidifier running in the other room, but it just stopped working. So everything is a little unhappy with the change. But my greenhouse has most of my alocasias, and I have a lot of alocasias 🤣
@Idplantthat @MilkNewt well then, the humidifier it is! thank you guys again for all the advice!!
Usually an old leaf dies off when a new one comes in!
