Browning leaves
I have had my plant for like a month and it has started browning. I water it about once every 5 or 6 days and it is close to the window. Please help
3ft to light, indirect
6โ pot without drainage
Last watered 2 years ago
@Boymom-plantmom yes, i repoted it and didnโt notice any mesh
Iโm thinking root rot with the yellowing and browning. I would personally check the roots. @sarahsalith any idea?
Thanks for the tag, @Boymom-plantmom!
I'm glad you found Greg, Lauren! Your plant is an #AlocasiaPolly -- good luck. ๐ It's a #NeverAgain plant for me; they are SO PICKY!!
Usually, I would suggest that you never immediately repot a new plant unless it is absolutely necessary... especially when it comes to an #Alocasia
1) New plants will have an adjustment period. The plant has to acclimate to our homes once they leave the perfect conditions of a nursery. Some of them have a harder adjustment time than others. Repotting immediately can make this adjustment even harder on the plant.
It's a good thing to know how to know how your plant was raised so you can try to duplicate those conditions.
2) I think watering every 5 or 6 days might be too frequent for that plant. It can hold on to water in its stem and the soil will retain moisture so it doesn't need to be watered as frequently unless the soil is not holding water at all.
Also, if that outer pot is holding water in the bottom, it could be overwatering your plant, too.
3) That plant requires PERFECT care - anything less than perfect care will result in a plant tantrum. ๐ Pollys are notorious for growing a leaf and losing a leaf.๏ฟผ It took me two years to find the perfect pot (ended up being a tall, plastic pot) and the perfect spot (outside on the balcony under a 50% shade cloth) before I got multiple leaves on my Polly ... then it got spider mites and I had to start all over. ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Luckily, it put itself out of my misery and died during my big "life change" earlier this year. ๐คฃ
Please tag me if you have any questions- that's a plant that's hard to please. (:
