This was gifted to me two months ago bc I have East, Southeast and South facing windows up in a condo. Originally it was by the window but I realized it doesn’t like direct sun so I moved it out of direct sun. Ever since it came (from west facing windows in a house) first it was turning brown from direct sun but now it’s turning yellow, what does this mean and how do I fix it. I was doing 2 cups of water once a week
21ft to light, indirect
13” pot without drainage
Last watered 6 days ago
@CasaJosie I think you might be overwatering. Dracaena are drought tolerant and can survive neglect once they are established. Your plant looks pretty mature. I would remove the yellow or damaged leaves and let the soil dry out completely before watering again. I water my Dracaenas 2 cups water every 2-3 weeks. Mine are both in 8 inch pots. I have one in an East facing window and one in a south facing window with a supplemental light from grow lights. The second photo is the one of mine that got thrips. I cut it back, treated it and now it’s growing a new stalk. You may want to take a look at your roots too, if you are overwatering and there is no drainage in the pot for the excess water to run off, you may also have some rot which will need to be addressed.
Hi Josie, looking at you plant ID, it says it’s in a pot with no drainage. If that’s true- you need to repot asap! Dracaena do not like soggy soil. The best out for your Cornstalk is a terracotta or Unglazed ceramic- as it gets bigger it will need the stability of a heavy pot, as well as it lets the soil and roots breathe. Soil is important as well, I mix 50% cactus/succulent soil with 50% Perlite, well draining soil is important too. Dracaena like Bright Indirect light. If you have an East facing window that’s perfect as it’ll get early morning sun, then bright indirect sun the rest of the day. When you bring a new plant home, it will always go thru some stress- new environment, air, light etc. it usually takes a week or 2 for new plants to acclimate to its new home, so I would suggest putting it in a spot you plant to keep it for a while. Change that pot asap or it will continue to deteriorate- (repotting will stress it again- but it’s necessary), once you do that, give it a little time to adjust. If you need help repotting just ask! I hope this helps πŸͺ΄πŸ’•
