Anise hyssop: a bee B&B experience

Hyssop, a true bed & breakfast...if you're a bumblebee.

My evening routine now includes a few checks of the anise hyssop to coo over my guests.

As a kid I found it so annoying to discover my mother had taken pictures of me sleeping.

I finally (sort of) get it.

Busy tonight. Several bees were bunking together. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿƒ

Wishing you and your pollinators sweet dreams ๐Ÿ’ค

(Can you find all seven sleeping bees in the second photo?)

Whoa ๐Ÿ˜ฎ check them out...this photo is from this morning...over nine hours after the first photos above and they're still there sleeping!! ๐Ÿ๐ŸŒท

All zzzz and no buzzzz

I read that bees sleep for hours - but nine?!

I had no idea. They're like teenagers ๐Ÿคฃ
Very beautiful!
@jennysue23

Right?!! I didn't expect to find observing bee slumber to be quite so fascinating. And I have the hyssop to thank.

I planted hyssop for the visiting Anna's Hummingbirds only to learn it's a bumblebee magnet (meanwhile, the hummers fly around hyssop to get to the salvias!).

For the scent alone, anise hyssop is my new favorite flower. But there's so many other wonderful things about it.
Itโ€™s all your fault. I canโ€™t resist it. Iโ€™m going to get some Anise Hyssop for my backyard. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ I canโ€™t wait to see more butterflies, hummingbirds and sleeping bees ๐Ÿ in my backyard. Your garden is so serene and beautiful. I hope your oasis lives long and prosper.

Hi Caroline and thank-you. So much about this is bringing me such joy.

When the sun goes down, I miss the beautiful birds, big and small, that spend their days with me...it's been kind of fun to know I have overnight guests that I can tiptoe outside to check on and there they'll be...sleeping on a scented cloud of flowers ๐ŸŒŒ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’ค๐Ÿ’•
@Ada3

Hi Ada, you won't be disappointed. It grows like a hot damn, makes for a unique cut flower that doesn't seem to wilt but instead holds it's shape as it dries in place... and even after it's dried it still smells amazing ๐Ÿ˜.

I can only image that the bees have sweet dreams on their sweet smelling hyssop petal pillows.
