Ordered this alocasia Hilo beauty online and it didnโ€™t survive the trip ๐Ÿ˜ญ trimmed it down and gave it a thorough watering. It looks like it had new growth so wanted to try my hand at rehabilitating this baby. Is this salvageable? Or am I wasting my time? #Alocasia #HiloBeauty
4ft to light, indirect
4โ€ pot with drainage
Last watered 1 year ago
Ok. I would try to get the roots out to see whatโ€™s going on. You may have soggy roots or rot or fungus. Then, remediate the problem and salvage the roots with stimulating chemical. Iโ€™d plant this in a plug first, then if it grew back put it in chunky soil that you canโ€™t overwater.
I've revived my Hilo a couple times (nursing it back sometimes, sometimes just buying a new one). These cuties are verrrry sensitive to root rot. I'd treat it like a dehydrated person, slowly reintroducing more water. Also if it's close to the window, once the set of leaves you have open up, I'd also pull it slightly farther from the window so it can focus more on roots rather that pushing out new leaves.
@ClassyBunyapine thank you! I checked the roots and they were very dry and brittle.
@DapperPineapple thank you for the tips! I do have it pretty close to the window right now so will definitely keep that in mind
