Good morning #greggang! Long but funny, sarcastic, & help-seeking post ahead. So please keep reading ππ»π© Iβm having my last 2 wisdom teeth removed in 2 hours.π₯΄π₯³ When I come home, Iβm sure the pain meds will guide me to another #accidentalplanthaul, only this time online π€ Hereβs what Iβm looking for: - tropical-ish plants to accompany my new #sabalpalms. I found a few #orangebirdofparadise that Iβm considering but otherwise Iβm drawing a blank. - Iβve got a clean slate in my front yard, one side is full aun, other side is full shade. - If youβve got any container ideas for my deck (also full sun), fire away! As always, you all ROCK and Iβm so thankful for this community! Oh yeah, extra credit for #lowmaintenance (like no frequent shrub shaping) and #perennials!! PSβ¦ Iβm currently growing #poppies, #peonies, #spiderlilies #greenorchidphlox, #blackcoralelephantear, multiple varieties of #hosta, & #bellsofireland indoors. So if I donβt unalive them first, planning on moving those outside. π¬ Added pics of a few for color inspo. #PlantAddict #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #OutdoorGrowing #TropicalPlants
I'm going to keep my comment super broad until I can do a little research BUT the easiest way to keep things low maintenance is to keep things native. Native plants already thrive in the climate your zone has so other than keeping them watered well the first two years you can basically be hands off.
Also, you'll want to look at a few levels of plants heights. You have very tall covered already π and some great low plants started.
Once I have a little time to research your zone I'll update with recommendations below!

Wow @PlantMompy that is really nice of you to do that! @Corinne I wish I had time to help with something like that today but I do notβΉοΈ it actually kinda sounds like fun!! If I get any free time today, Iβll see what I can find for ya as well!!!
@PlantMompy you read my mind about the differing heights, I had to modify my post a few times because I was over the character limit π€£ Love the native plant idea. Thatβs a huge tip. I might need to stop by a local nursery and see whatβs considered native. Also, I have a side yard Iβm not ready to do anything with so Iβm spreading a ton of wildflower seed for pollinators and one for hummingbirds and butterflies. π
@PioneerRutabaga awesome!!! Thank you!! I bought my house 9 years ago and it felt like my house was smothered in trees and shrubs. So this year I had it all yanked so I could make it mine! And Iβm excitedπ€© but overwhelmed at the same time because now I have so many options. Iβll try to snag some pics when I get home.
@PlantMompy Iβve started native research and just had to let you know that thereβs a plant called sneezeweed π
@PioneerRutabaga hereβs the original post π¬ if youβve got any ideas Iβd love to hear them. Having some trouble walking today (diff injury) so Iβll try and take pics tomorrow π
@Corinne hey lady!! Just sayin hello today! Hope all is well! π«Άπ»π±
