I GOT GLOW IN THE DARK FLOWERS !!!! Finally my Light bio ...

I GOT GLOW IN THE DARK flowers !!!! Finally my Light bio flowers have come. They are genetically modified flowers with bioluminescent genes. I’m so excited but also so scared 😳. I really hope I can take good care of them. #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #bioluminescent floweringPlants">#floweringPlants #Petunia
I’ve been so absolutely curious about these! I saw them at a local nursery here, and I always wanted to know, do they really light up?? lol You’ll have to keep me posted on how they grow and if they keep the glow. I might have to invest in some.
@Idplantthat So I’ve learned that there is the RARE chance that the bio gene was skipped, and in turn won’t glow. I’ve also read that the nutrients and lighting also can contribute to lack of glow. I will definitely post an update. Also that it won’t be SUPER bright, like a glow stick, especially if there is light pollution drowning out its glowing. This is all from researching the plant as much as I can.
@FabRubbercup I really appreciate you taking the time to research all this out! Genetics 🧬 are always so fascinating to me. They also seriously confuse me sometimes. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ So if I’m following correctly: they can genetically skip a generation just like humans or really most DNA. But they also need certain nutrients and lighting to take in, and make the β€œglow” lol I’m curious now if they used jellyfish DNA in this for the glow. 🀣 But pollination can slow the glow a little as well, I’d assume because the plant is focused on reproducing? So not a sterile plant.. πŸ˜‰
@Idplantthat sounds like you got the jist, and I think if I remember correctly the bioluminescent genes 🧬 come from bioluminescent mushrooms πŸ„. Haha and no it’s not sterile. From my research the stem is the male part and the flowers are the female ….. I think πŸ€”. And seeds can be collected from the flowers. But letting the flowers turn into seeds can slow the flowering, making less flowers grow. οΏΌοΏΌ
@Idplantthat they do indeed glow !!!! It’s very faint, but I did just get them today so we shall see if they keep the glow all night. I did have to turn off all my lights.
@FabRubbercup, that’s the coolest thing I’ve seen! I definitely need to get these next spring. That’s just awesome! 😎 πŸ‘πŸ» Thanks for sharing it! I’m so happy you did 😊
