Help with peace lily drooping and millipedes
#PeaceLily My Peace Lily is drooping, and seems to be needing watering every 2-3 days. (More than Greg suggests). The leaves are all healthy looking, and she continuously is unfurling 5-6 new leaves. I thought I would give her a good bottom watering this time instead, and found some millipedes in the bottom of the plastic drainage tray! Gross!!! HELP!! πβοΈπ±

Paula! Your plant is gorgeous! With the plant having such large leaves and being tight in the pot, the roots may be soaking up the water every few days like you said. It's not a bad thing β just water even though Greg doesn't tell you to water and market as watered on your app. Eventually, the app should catch up to how you are watering-- ultimately you are in charge of your plant and you know your plant best. οΏΌοΏΌοΏΌ
When you see the roots coming out of the bottom of your pot and it looks like it's ready to walk away, that's a good indication that you should be looking for another pot soon. Just go one or two inches in diameter bigger. You don't want your peace lily to flop in protest at a large pot that's too large.
It's spring! Bugs are blooming everywhere ... including in our house plants. One or two centipedes is not going to do any harm, there are much worse bugs that you could find. οΏΌοΏΌ(: Besides, centipedes are solitary insectsοΏΌ and they don't like company, so you should only see one or two. ποΏΌ
οΏΌEDIT - I said centipede, I meant Millipede. My bad!οΏΌ

My peace lilies all prefer bottom watering. Every once in awhile I do a top water. The millipedes I'm not sure about but I read this. "Millipedes pose no danger to people and rarely do they damage plants, but that doesn't mean you want them setting up house indoors. These pests usually migrate indoors from outside or they invade outdoor potted plants. They prefer damp, dark locations and quickly die in dry areas."
@sarahsalith Any thoughts? πβοΈπ±
@sarahsalith ohhhh!! Thank you for the reassurance!! Surely it seems big and healthy, but I sure didnβt expect the millepedes!! Yuck! πͺ± I did take a good look at it all at night when I bottom watered it, and no legs coming through yet, so wonβt be running away for a while yet! Thanks for getting back to me so soon! I was worried there was a buggy problem after seeing that last night!! Have a good Sunday πβοΈπ±
@LovingSunnyAZ I hope you have a beautiful Sunday, too!!
Just an update regarding my droopy peace lily. It is a pretty good size, healthy plant, but it had been requiring water every other dayβmuch more frequent than Greg recommended. I decided to give it a good bottom watering/ soaking. (And that is when I found the yucky millepedes that freaked me out!). After a good soak, I also let water run through from the top and drain through. My lily stood up nice and tall and hasnβt βaskedβ for another drin since then (now 4 days ago). I am thinking it just needed a good thorough watering throughout the pot. Anywayβ¦..just thought Iβd share a good outcome! πβοΈπ±
