My beloved Opuntia Face is going absolutely crazy over the last few weeks. Yesterday was 102 degrees F, today hit 95 and 22 mph winds, and OF officially outgrew the IKEA cage.

Hey Utah friend! I’m loving the opuntia! How has yours been handling the weather a few of mine have loved it and a few have disliked it. lol
@Idplantthat Oh hi! All except the robusta (the heart shaped pads - the BIG one) have done really well. My two Decumbens are thriving. I didn’t really plan to put them outdoors because the apartment complex made me take down my privacy screen - which I made into an afternoon shade cover. Screen and IKEA cages to the rescue.
My precious screen in 2024!
@thenonnon how intuitive of you! Holy opuntia! She’s gorgeous!! I couldn’t believe how heavy the pads are. I’ve got a three big pad and I nearly fell over so I decided next planter is going to get creative!!
@Idplantthat This is the one I cannot tame. The pot is way too small, and the pads want to fall off, it seems. Note that I spent a year saying "these don't grow here" lol.
@thenonnon she looks gorgeous! I’m assuming that’s a before and after pictures πŸ˜‰ do you keep yours in full sun and then just in a window at winter? I’ve got to go back downtown to the fountain and get more water! The plants love that well water
@idplantthat Aha! I don't know why I haven't used that water. Well, I do. Liberty Park's water was off when I started collecting a few years ago.

I separated some pads last year because it is too unruly. This is only my second summer with it, but yeah outside and then under here in the Winter.

Jeez! She’s got nutty! That’s so great! Oh, yeah, last year liberty wells area had so much construction! Trying to get to tea grotto, used to be ridiculous! πŸ€ͺ
@thenonnon what is the cacti next to your Joseph’s coat? Does it have the purple spikes? I was looking at getting one, but I don’t know anything about them! (Then I found some San Pedro’s and I got those and totally forgot till I saw yours! So please tell me it! πŸ€—
@Idplantthat I moved them around a bit yesterday so I'm guessing one of these two?
Sorry! This dude! He looks so colorful and fun.
@idplantthat
Oh! That's Euphobia Ferox. Those started as two Home Depot plants that grew into this monster (before and after). I recently separated it - the sibling is the same size.
@thenonnon oh my gosh! I love them! 😍 I want to joke, and scream catch and pretend to throw it! (🀣) that’s so beautiful, are they soft spikes or the super sharp spikes??
@Idplantthat Well, I would use this as a weapon if someone broke in lol. Euphorbia are all toxic in various ways (their sap), and this one is indeed painful to the touch.
@thenonnon oh gosh! Yeah, definitely don’t place catch with that guy. 🀣 why do the beautiful ones always have to be toxic.. πŸ«₯
