Personalizing my tropical pitcher plant Tiny Tim

#TheSagaOfTinyTim continues!! As my eldest Human Bean-sprout likes to tell me, I should not have adult money…. Todays #sidemission is my β€œkeepers” are all getting name tags and personal quotes just because I wanna and it’s fun!! 🀣 #crazyplantlady #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #madplantscientist

Yayyy
I love those, I do the same. Making name tags with sayings on them for my plants. My friends get a good giggle out of them.
I do like those tags, where did you get them?
@Sassylimey Bunnings! 🀩 they’re relatively expensive but I can put plant cards in them too if I want, or make my own info tags πŸ€“
Cute idea!
@PoisonIvys you've got quite a collection of carnivorous plants. I have a nepenthes alata that produces no viable pitchers. She's under a grow light and a beautiful plant. Any idea that could help?
@Sassylimey I love them so much!! And thank you πŸ˜‡ Baby Q makes 10 Nepenthes total 😍πŸ₯°humidity hut!! They won’t produce pitchers if the humidity is too low 😊 Find a giant vase/tall glass thing you can either cling wrap or put a lid on and stick it in for about a month. Still under the lights although avoid light through plastic (the culprit behind my strange scorch marks recently it turns out). After about 2 weeks-4weeks you should see some development of new jugs although the ones that dried or stalled and didn’t grow won’t grow back. When you do you can start increasing airflow/decreasing humidity. You basically poke a hole in the lid every couple weeks and leave it alone for probably 3 months or so really before there’s any kind of decent progress. Eventually you can remove your lid when it gets holey enough but I would leave it in a terrarium if some kind for future humidity problems
@Sassylimey also, an Alata is on my Wishlist 😍 everyone is into hybrids it seems and I haven’t found one yet, although Tiny Tim might be πŸ˜… yours is gorgeous! From what I can tell you have tried extra light, extra water and extra misting from the way he looks in this pic. Just a touch too much water and light, ruffled leaves in a Nepenthes usually mean over hydrated although some species do have ruffled leaves anyway which make it tough πŸ˜… alata usually have fairly flat smooth leaves I’m pretty sure πŸ€” and the slightly darker colour means maybe 30 mins too much light, not enough to burn or turn red but just a tad over.
@PoisonIvys should I snip off the little dried out pitchers and will it grow new ones?
@Sassylimey I always leave them do their thing, the plant won’t grow a new one if you cut it but should grow whole new new leaves from the top which will have pitchers. If you’re aiming to get a full plant of pitchers then trimming the stem will be required, but I would suggest having someone there who has done it before or googling for weeks if you’ve never done it. Positioning cuts can be tricky but that would be a drastic measure and only if you’re desperately wanting the full pitchers plant. Otherwise leave him be, get the humidity up and he will grow some new ones but not on the leaves he already has that have had the pitchers damaged
Bahahahaha I just saw this and it’s glorious πŸ€ͺπŸ’¬
Thank you so much @PoisonIvys you've helped me tremendously. I really appreciate it πŸ₯°
@RealSimpleMama right?!?! I have a fly trap that eats itself who’s gonna be toothless 😜 legit 2 or 3 traps on it fold over in one side and the flys escape 😳
@PoisonIvys lol omg what an adorable derp. 🀣 AND I SEE JEFF GEOFF
@Sassylimey no worries!! Of course there’s a bit of leeway in my advice, double check with others or google 4-5 different sources. Not being there in person can make it tricky to diagnose/offer advice. But I’m general increasing the humidity all the way up to 100% for shortish periods of time isn’t terrible as long as you don’t let it drop again drastically. My best guess is you just need to re-acclimate this guy starting out in the preferred 80-90% humidity zone for recovery then lowering slowly until he’s ready to sit out on display again 😊 I would still recommend a terrarium of some kind, small potted fish tanks are my preferred for keeping high humidity and looking spectacular 😍
@RealSimpleMama seriously is a bit derpish 😜 and totally adorable 😍 Jeff Geoff 🀣🀣 I swear for an unwanted plant he’s the greatest. His origin story: bean-sprout: β€œmum can we get this one?”
Me: β€œwe are here for specific things today, I can’t really afford…. **turns** oooooh pretty” 😍
@PoisonIvys aha! The ole β€œDistract Mama with Pretty Plants” routine! 🀣 I wonder where mine get it from…. #atleastitsnotdrugs #icouldhavebeenanalcoholic #itwouldhavebeencheaper jk
@RealSimpleMama derrrrrrp
@PoisonIvys ugh. Hannibal the Cannibal obviously. Although, maybe he just needs braces?…
@RealSimpleMama Napoleon!! As in dynamite πŸ˜…
@RealSimpleMama talk and skinny and just a bit derpish…. Absolutely Napoleon πŸ‘Œ
@PoisonIvys lol! Perfect! β€œTina eat your ham…” πŸ¦™πŸ¦™πŸ¦™
@RealSimpleMama ohhhhh no πŸ˜… now I think I need a Tina too
@PoisonIvys lol! Can you get a little guy and make him (vote for) Pedro?
@RealSimpleMama absolutely!
@PoisonIvys one more - knew you’d appreciate it - watching The Princess Bride so now i need a Buttercup, Dread Pirate Roberts, Humperdinck, and Inigo Montoya!
@RealSimpleMama this names are pegged for more nepenthes πŸ˜‹ I changed princesses slogan to β€œI look like a moose” already…. 😳😜😍 then of course Inigo Montoya popped into my head and I do have exactly 4 unnamed nepenthes propagating…..
@RealSimpleMama hehehehehehehehehehe the amount of happy-tonin this gives me is insane 😍😍😍
