don’t have any myself but i often hear that if they don’t get enough moisture, they’ll start browning
*humidity oops
So calathea are notoriously picky about water - they don’t like chlorine, so I would recommend doing distilled or filtered water (though full disclosure - I recently switched back to using plain tap water and mine are fine. I don’t know why though bc they’ve struggled with it in the past)
Also, @voidnuggets is right - they like a lot of humidity (and moisture!) you don’t want to let the soil get too dry.
The leaves will start curling up if it really needs water so you can watch for that. They don’t like too much direct sun or extreme temperatures.
@voidnuggets @Megan You guys are awesome! Thank you!

I do live in FL... Should I invest in a humidifier?
@melodey depends on the humidity level in your room/wherever you’re putting her i think!
Calatheas need specific care in order to thrive. They need a consistently warm spot and bright but indirect light – keep them out of direct sunshine. Keep the soil moist from spring to autumn, and provide some humidity by misting the leaves daily or standing on a tray of moist pebbles. Enjoy the adventure!!
