My blue oil fern is losing this leaf. Any ideas what’s going on? Is this a bad setup? It did break a little in the middle, not totally, but I suppose it has succumb to this injury? #help #PlantAddict #FernFriends #BlueOilFern

Hi Samuel! Here’s some good info for your Blue Oil Fern. “Light: This Southeast Asian native is a shade-specialist. Place it in a low to medium indirect light area, like a north-facing window or a shaded corner. Protect it from direct sunlight, which will bleach the fronds and destroy their unique blue iridescence. Water when the very surface of the soil feels slightly dry to the touch. These ferns have sensitive, fine roots, so keep the substrate consistently damp but not waterlogged. Always use filtered, rain, or distilled water, as they are sensitive to chemicals in standard tap water. Humidity & Temperature: Thrives in humidity above 50-60%. Because of this, it makes an excellent plant for a bathroom or a terrarium. Maintain temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and protect the plant from cold drafts and air conditioning units. Soil & Potting: Because they grow as epiphytes in the wild, Blue Oil Ferns prefer very airy substrates. Use a mix of bark, perlite, and a little high-quality potting soil. Shallow pots, orchid baskets, or slabs are perfect since they have shallow root systems. When repotting, pin the furry creeping rhizome to the top of the soil instead of burying it, to prevent rot.
