Spider mites ruining my repotting efforts!

Just letting everyone know I’m over #plantmom life right now. 🫥
Pretty much everything I’ve repotted has some sort of bug. Mostly spider mites…. BAD.
I checked the soil and everything before I did it but now they’re just popping up everywhere! 😩

I don’t know what else to do… any new plants or plants I haven’t repotted are perfectly fine. It’s my succulents and my hibiscus that I did do…

I’m so sorry! I hate spider mites so much!! I had them really bad last year on my patio—they were even webbing on my plant stands and patio chair 😖
I don’t have much by way of advice, unfortunately, but I wanted to offer my sympathy!
@ESylvanus oh that’s so awful! 😥 I’m just so discouraged now… I feel like I should’ve somehow known it was going to happen. Idk if the soil I got was bad maybe? Idk…

Thank you tho💚
@TattedHibiscus It does sound like maybe they hitched a ride on the soil, since all the repotted ones are affected 😭
Don’t blame yourself, though! You couldn’t have known. They’re so small that you wouldn’t have seen them. It’s just one of those things that happens, sadly 😞 I wish your plants and you a speedy recovery!
@RJG @sarahsalith Do either of you have advice for spider mite treatment?
I’m so sorry @TattedHibiscus 😣 that sounds terrible.
I have yet to get spider mites, knock on wood 🫣 but I have gotten this product as recommended by a YouTuber who did struggle with spider mites. I’ve used it on my tomatoes for mealie bugs and caterpillars 🙄 and I’ve seen a lot of improvement in their growth since the first use. Supposedly it works well for spider mites too! It just does have to be reapplied every week. It’s called AzaMax, it’s organic and safe enough to use on edible plants. I’ll link you the product and the video I saw it in so you can see how it’s applied and get a better idea if it’s something you want to try or if you’ll go another route. I hope your plant babies get better 😔🪴💖.

This is my jam. You can use it every day and they nuke the little buggers out of the sky. You got this 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
I LOVE NATRIA!! It's gentle enough to spray every day. Just spray away!

Full disclosure: I buy the big bottle now!

If you have plants, you'll have bugs.
@EvocativePalqui I’ve tried the whole cinniamon thing and dish soap but those have let me down so far 🥲 Just trying to keep up with separating things so they don’t get my good plants… thank you for the suggestions!! 💚
@ESylvanus just ugh 😩😭 my anxiety is through the roof about it lol. I’m just hoping it won’t effect my other plants and I caught it in time. Thank you💚💚
@PlantingPeace thank you 😖💚 I always see others post about it and was super thankful I didn’t have to deal with it, then bam! 5 plants at once… I will definitely look into this and watch the video!! If not maybe it can help with my black coach horseman bugs…
@RJG thanks Drew!! I’ll have to look into this! Do you have to spray the soil heavily? I never know how much to do with this kind of thing or where to put it 😅
@sarahsalith thank you so much Sarah!! 💚💚
@TattedHibiscus yah I'll spray the soil too!
I use several different things. We’ve had a tough year with mites outdoors and I resorted to Doktor Doom aerosol outdoors in the evening so there’s no need to rinse off. For indoor tropical plants, I use the isopropyl alcohol with dawn dish soap and water. Spray until saturation and let stand for 10 minutes then gives the plants a shower so all of the solution will permeate the soil.

For a last resort, while prepping for the winter and moving them indoors, my succulents except the ones classified as crassula got a nice low dose of Bonide’s Eight. It stinks just like Sevin but it kills the wretched little ratchets on contact. They are treated every week since my succulents are in a high mix of volcanic pumice. I checked on them last night and no mites. The next dose is next week, just a lite surface spray on the medium line since they are under lots of grow lights and can take the preventative treatment. I treat the same way with fungicides and open the doors to the garage for decent air flow every day while it’s still warm out.

Spider mites are hitch-hikers. I can’t stand them.
If you can, get your hands on some #californicusmites. I swear by them decimating spider mite populations
