Dottie's sticky surprise: a nursery trick?

So today I took my Dottie out of the pot because she’s been drooping more than normal. I cleaned her roots and found a sticky net around her base. I suppose this is something the nursery did before she came to the store??? Thankful that I found this and hopefully now she’s on the right road.
