Have any of you used AI conversations to learn more about your plants? I’ve been doing that to answer other people’s questions and I’ve been studying my individual plants. Just now I asked a bunch of questions about my Lithops and learned a way of watering each one in a pot filled with a bunch at different stages. Answer: squirt bottle! Try talking with AI on any of your search engines. Just remember to use your own judgment as AI only gathers a lot of information from around the net and could mislead. But combined with common sense it is a good synthesizer. #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #TheWateringHole
@BEsucculent I use it quite often. You are correct though, it is not always accurate. But, thank you 😊
I talk to Alexa a lot!
@malmisfit that’s a good idea for me too. I’m often annoyed with Alexa as she starts talking sometimes when I didn’t ask her anything. But maybe she needs a technical problem to solve.
I always use it with a grain of salt. It comes in handy for certain things, but personally I don't use it to answer questions here because I feel like people come to Greg with their questions because they want an non-AI answer from a real person. But that's just my opinion ☺️
@stephonicle I agree with you on that one.
I use Gemini often and if you prompt it to answer like a botanist or horticultural expert you’ll get better answers, often with explanations why. It really helps if you say where you live, include the plant name and a photo as well. Keep each chat to one plant, less chance of it getting mixed up.
I don’t use AI other than this app. Any information an AI can give me is already on the internet just a google away and is likely more thorough, plus no AI hallucinations. You have to check everything the AI says anyway so you’ll likely end up googling it one way or another—I don’t see the appeal.
@stephonicle Absolutely! I’d much rather take advice from a real plant enthusiast who has had real life experiences than a robot giving you their best guess based on compiled information they have mixed with whatever lies there could be online. No hate to anybody of course, though.
I use Gemini on my Android a lot, I give it pics of my plants for diagnostics. It's not always right, and sometimes I will ask the same questions in multiple ways to try to catch any inaccuracies. That said, I like that it will make those conversations into a Google doc, which I save in Drive and update as I go. I also like that it's started to learn what plants I have, and it even references my cat by name and gives me pet specific advice. I guess I've asked Gemini about pet safe plants just a few times. 😆 I do prefer to read advice here, but it's definitely another source for me!
