Not sure how but while on vacation the blossoms on my Orchid fell off😔
I’m glad I got to see at least two flowers before this happened… #OrchidLovers

@DSquires4 @GMA27 this doesn’t look like just blooms falling off, did the entire spike break off? Do you have animals that were at your house while you were gone or did the entire thing, jar and all, fall? It would be very strange for an orchid spike to break off by itself. Blooms can drop off themselves for a number of reasons.
How high is the water in that jar? And would you mind giving me a close Up view of the roots? They are looking pretty dark from what I can tell.

@DreamMachine Oh wow. (It looks like my notifications for Greg got turned off😅)
Yes it was the whole spike the broke off, but that’s where I’m not sure how, as the apartment was empty over the Christmas break. I’m kind of wondering if I broke it before I left and didn’t remember… I’m also pretty sure the jar itself didn’t fall.
Here’s a picture. When I first bought this Orchid it wasn’t doing well (clearance section at Walmart), and I’m not sure what to look for in the roots.

@DSquires4 What is your plan for this orchid? Do you mean to eventually pot it in some kind of substrate or keep in a jar like you are? I do the same thing with one of my phal orchids but I do a “semi water culture” where really only 1/3 of her roots (the lowest ones) are touching the water. I let my orchid (and evaporation) continue to use the water until it is completely dry, then I water it again so that only 1/3 of the roots are touching the water. To keep yours constantly in water that deep might encourage some unwanted bacterial growth or rot. Here’s an orchid guy I generally trust with his info, talking about this method if you are interested! https://youtu.be/COJTXes57bE?si=RDUqdghc1dyIGeKm
@DSquires4 oh here is mine for reference! You can see where the water level is
