MY EXPERIENCE, PLANTING SUCCULENT SEEDS: The guide said...

MY EXPERIENCE, PLANTING SUCCULENT SEEDS: The guide said to soak the seeds for 24 hours then moisten the soil and place the seeds one by one on top of the soil with a toothpick. Well, in 24 hours the seeds had formed a gooey mucus slime around themselves and a toothpick could not separate one seed from the other. So I rigged a syringe so that I could suck up the glob of seeds with some water surrounding them and spewed the ooze onto the top of the soil. Eventually, the seeds at the bottom of the cup could be sucked up without the goo. So I was able eventually to spread the seeds out a little bit although as you can see, I have way too many seeds in each section. I popped the lid on top of the tray and we’ll wait until tomorrow to see what it all looks like . They say that succulent seeds don’t easily germinate so perhaps I don’t have too many seeds in there. Actually, I know I have way too many seeds in there, but tomorrow when things are not quite so gooey maybe I can pull some of them out. If any of you have any experience in this, let me know where I went wrong. I think I really wasn’t supposed to soak the seeds overnight because some instructions say to soak them some instructions they don’t soak them. Well, it’s an experiment after all. #TheWateringHole tags: @MarionsOasis @Just1More @Sassylimey @Ms.Persnickety @TidyTigerpear @DreamMachine @BEsucculent @kaleena @MamaLinne @debbiedo @BonusTaraire85 @Idplantthat @mtplantlady @BabeVila @RefinedSandwort @LaLaslovlies @FitBrowallia @JenniferNoel @CutePolypremum @AC73LoveCats @SweetAzurebluet @IWantThatPlant @ILoveMyPlants @princesspitstop @Jho @Dawgfreak @Luckeecharm1 @MockingJay @HolyLacealoe @stephongreg @Ponytailmom flowerSunset">@SunflowerSunset @PrizedShadscale @Popcornjoness @BuffCaperspurge @Preciousplants1 @baobab_zig @GreenPurpose @antsinurplants @LucidAgapanthus @ShadowBoxrBaby @Forbes57 @TRose @CactusAdjacent

@BEsucculent oh my goodness πŸ˜… Well, I’m not very well versed in succulents so I couldn’t say, but I’ve definitely done something similar with a pipette before! Are they gooey like chia seeds gooey?
Magnifying glass and pair of tweezers? That would be my only suggestions! Have you watched any YouTube videos?
Fun experiment, Barbara! I did aloe from seed before.. just planted it like normal and got I think 3 plants from a bunch of seeds. I’m interested to see how soaking them affects it. πŸ€“
@DreamMachine yes exactly.
@MamaLinne yes lots of them. The problem is no one shows how to plant the gooey seeds.
@BEsucculent Hi Barb! 😊 when I plant seeds, if they are tiny seeds, I don’t soak them but larger ones I do soak and they have so far done well. I’m not sure about succulent seeds, I’ve never plants them before but I do know they are very itty bitty😁 please keep us posted on what happens! I would love to see a pic every few days!πŸͺ΄πŸ˜ƒ
Hi @BEsucculent well that’s a fun experiment/experience!! I haven’t done succulents seeds but did do anthurium seeds. They had the goo all over them too so I used a sieve and ran the sink showerhead over them to help wash off the goo. Your seeds would require something much finer, maybe like a cheesecloth to keep from being washed away. But this time you’ve got so many it’s most likely going to produce a few plants πŸ™ŒπŸ‘πŸŒ±
That is so great! πŸ˜„ What a smart idea! You’ll have to tell us how it works out. I’d be curious πŸ‘€
I'm impressed with your experiment and looking forward to seeing the progress 😊
Lol they’re punking you with the β€˜one seed at a time’. How? Good luck!!! 🀞
@MariansOasis good idea with the rinse although I can just imagine trying to get those tiny seeds out of cheese cloth! 😜
@8elephantsdance yeah I be well punked.
@BEsucculent I don’t have any experience growing succulents from seeds. Keep us posted on how it goes!
