I’m new to the plant life, I’ve always loved succulents and wanted to become a #PlanAddict but I’ve been afraid to start. Today i went and bought my first plant, i potted it in succulent soil and gave it a very small amount of water to just wet the soil. What are some tips?

Read everything u can get ur hands on about succulents in general and ur specific choices in particular. Use QUALITY succulent soil, the cheapest isn't always best. If u come across a specific issue u need help w/just reach out. U have the greatest resource of expert advice right here!!! Also, using hash tags will get u to a specific area and people w/ur plant or plant type; also available help w/certain issues can be found more easily using hash tags. Trust me, if whomever responds doesn't have the answer for u; I guarantee they can guide u to the person who does! We r all family here and want everyone to succeed and live ur best plant life!!!!🫢πŸͺ΄πŸ§šβœŒοΈ
What kind of succulent soil did you use? They need well draining. If you used a "dirt" succulent soil with nothing mixed in, you need to add to your soil mix.

Cheapest add-in is pumice. I use about 70% pumice and then mix in some soil.

Use pots with drainage holes. When watering, give it a good watering and water until water drains from drainage holes.
My best advice is don’t be afraid to try, and if a plant dies, you learn something new, don’t beat yourself up! I have a lot of plants that thrive, but I have probably unalived more than most people will even own in a lifetime! Welcome!
@AwesomePlants it is a Miracle gro succulent and cactus potting mix, I did add in some stones. I will make changes quickly from your recommendations! Thank you so much!
@BuffCaperspurge I appreciate the advice and recommendations! I’d love to try different types of soil, send me a link and I’ll check it out!
Welcome to the plant family! You will do awesome! πŸ‘πŸ» With around 80-90 percent of plants’ biggest issues being not having good drainage, my only advice is to make sure your soils are well-draining. I think you’ll do amazing; this is a great community that loves to help out. 🩡🌻🐝🫢🏻
@Idplantthat thank you! The pot i have it in right now has no drainage holes so I’m going to have to make one! I see that is very important to keep it alive and thriving.
@ChiquitaBonita best thing if you like decorative pots, use plastic pots with drainage holes for your plants and then you can just slip them in cute pots if you want. But drainage holes are a must.

Hi @ChiquitaBonita welcome to the wonderful world of plants πŸͺ΄ 🌡 🌳 Love your first choiceπŸ™Œ. I have lots of succulents outside and my best advice is lots of sun and not much water. People tend to water their outdoor succulents along with their lawn or flower beds. They’ll look and do okay for a while but then usually end up rotting. If it rains a lot where you live, protect her from too much rainfall. Like one day would be okay but not a few days in a row, or frequently.
Make sure your pot have a lot of drainage holes in the bottom, if not just use a drill and make your own holes in the bottom. #learnfrommymistakes
@ChiquitaBonita That’s a brilliant idea, and @Lyssabby is completely right: make lots of drain holes. You will be awesome at this, and if you get into a spot of trouble, you can always ask; someone is usually willing to help. πŸ˜‰ 🩡 I’m excited to see your progress! So on these, just remember to not water directly on the leaves or close to the root or stem; they are prone to root and turn a brownish color. If anything like that happens, just let them dry out before planting again. Succulents are notoriously liars about how much water πŸ’¦ they want. 🀣 🫢🏻🐝🌻🩡
@MariansOasis I’ve always loved succulents more than flowers because my grandma would always have a HUGE pot full of hens and chicken. I put mine close to the door on my front porch so it’s covered and out of the rain!
@Lyssabby I am going to have holes drilled in the pot i have!
Keep in mind variables kind of tie into each other how often you water will be significantly impacted by the soil you chose for example
