My oldest got me Zebra isopods so I made them a terrarium. I gotta get spring tails in there and let is cycle some before adding the isopods but I'm super excited. #happyplants #terrarium #isopodlovers #plantsmakepeoplehappy

@ITalk2Plants WOW!! π€― Thatβs amazing!! π I love seeing βunder the hoodβ so to speak, and youβve made a stunning terrarium π±π₯°
Thatβs amazing! Iβve wanted to do one of these for a long time for my frogs but Iβm scared that I will fail at it. Would you say that itβs pretty easy to do and get going or would you suggest something else to start and work up to this. I have 2 terrariums set up for my frogs but nothing like this! Itβs all fake stuff in them and I really want to do all living things and have like an ecosystem in them. Yours look amazing!
@Tiffanypickles thank you π I've had this tank for so long and kept saying I was going to make a terrarium. I watched so many videos. It's a good bit of work but I enjoyed it.
What I did
Took clear silicone and re-sealed everything. Put a coat on the glass where I was gonna put the spray foam (to help the foam stick better) .
There has to be a Drainage layer. And a place for the water pump. I used foam board to separate that out.
For the spray foam watch what you get it expands differently and dried at different rates . I took plastic planters and covered in plastic wrap and stuck in the foam as it was setting up (pulled them out when it was completely dry) the foam you will probably need to do in layers. Each brand of foam set up at different rates but wait at least 5 minutes before adding stones to the foam. Once dry you can pull the cups out.
At this point you can spray paint, or hand paint the foam (I sponge painted it with acrylic paint) nothing fancy . then did a clear coat to seal it.
Now is a good time to make sure the pump is set-up how you will want it and do a test before you get soil in the tank.
I took clear spray adhesive (or clear silicone) and sprayed over it and covered in dirt/charcoal .
For the Drainage layer I went to the pet store and got filter foam and did a layer at the bottom of the tank and extra where the pump would be. On top the foam is a sheet of weed barrier fabric. Then layers of charcoal, then sand, foxfire soil (happy frog, personal preference expensive but very very very good soil) I went outside and got lots of leaf litter and moss to cover everything.
All of the plants in it are starts from plants i already have.
The pump is a small cheap simple pump (i took out of a pet watering dish) . I have a splitter on the hose and have 2 hoses coming off. One is the fall you can see the other has a sealed end and a lot of holes in it to slowly let water out. It's at the top to help keep all the moss watered.
Since this post I added more foam. This time to cover the outside of the tank where you could see the side of the foam. I'm gonna do the other side but ran outta foam π
Make sure wherever you put the pump it's easy to access.
Here is a video I got a lot of helpful into from and the tiktok I had made
