Help my African Marigolds are dying. I adopted them a week ago and since I'm a beginner I watered them everyday. Yesterday I checked them and I thought that they are "sleeping" because they are leaned down but at the same time their nick is very steady but I checked them today morning again and they are still on the same position so I think they're dying because I've watered them so much. What should I do? I love them so much.
Last watered 1 year ago
You can cut off the flowers that have fallen over. Marigolds will grow new flowers soon if they have bright light and get water when they get dry. They like full sun. If it’s really hot and sunny every day you may need to water them daily, if not hold off on watering till the top of the soil starts to dry. Do you have any drainage in your planter? Having drainage for water to run out will make it easier to not over water.
Yes they definitely look overwatered. They need to have moisture in the soil but not wet. I would first gently and lightly fluff up the top of the soil to aerate it a little. Don’t dig down in and disturb the roots. Then I’d cut off any obviously dead leaves. They won’t come back and are only taking energy away from the plant. Also cut off the limp or dead flowers. Once the flowers start to β€œgo by” which just means they are done blooming and will start to forming seeds, it’s a good idea to cut them off. It takes a lot of energy to go to seed and you’ll get fewer and smaller blooms if you don’t take them off. Looking at your plant profile it shows that it is in a pot with no drainage. If that’s correct then you need to really be careful with watering. Ideally you want drainage holes so the bottom doesn’t fill up with excess water πŸ’¦ all around its roots. It will essentially drown the plant. Most pots like the one you have usually have drainage holes πŸ•³οΈ. Check and see and if it does then change the profile to yes, drainage holes. It makes a difference with what Greg recommends for watering. Good luck with your marigolds!β˜€οΈπŸ‘
I've put the orange flower (Sabah) in a dry soil and then when I felt that Sabah is not adapting to the new soil I put her back to its original soil and didn't give both of the flowers water for two days because I didn't want them to drown. I only gave them water today and put them in not a very sunny place and I also removed all the dead ends. hopefully they will get better. Do you the process I did is good or bad?
You might not want to water them every day because it might be too much πŸ’¦
Try not to move them so much you’ll keep them in a state of shock for longer
