How the heck to separate snake plants?

I wanted to rescue this plant but… now what?! How in the HECK do I separate these? LOL! The one time I did a snake plant before I could find clear spots to make a cut. This scares me 🫠😳 #SnakePlant #PropagationStation
Good luck with that. I will be watching to see what the outcome is. I’m curious to know the answer on how to do that.
You could try soaking it and GENTLY massaging the roots loose maybe? Would take a ton of patience, but could work
Also holy friggin #rootporn! Lol πŸ‘€πŸ‘€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€
@WickedValkyrie LOL right?! And thank you!! I’ll give it a try haha this poor thing! My daughter asked why I felt bad for a plant and I said β€œImagine if you had to fit 6 more people in those pants you’re wearing, and you couldn’t ever take them off or have anybody get out to make room” She looked at me and said β€œMom GET THEM OUT OF THERE”. She’s 7 🀣
try to massage the roots, maybe use a skewer or something to help break the soil. then just use something sharp to cut them near the base. snakes are easily propagatable so don’t worry if you lose a few roots
@user22908 I second this, I’ve used a clean knife to slice off offshoots and they’re always fine. Super hardy plants!
@Kimtownsend686 Wow look at those roots. #RootPorn @WickedValkyrie has good advice.
What is the white in the second picture. Kinda looks lillie cotton
I usually cut off about the bottom 1/2” to get the roots that are circling the bottom. Then you can untangle a lot more of them easier. More roots will grow!
All you need to do is cut through, use a clean santized knife or pair of scissors and cut in between each stem. Don’t worry about hurting it, plants are extremely resilient and they will appreciate the additional space in their new pots.
I would massage loose what you can and then pot bigger for a bit. I would think the roots would naturally spread out some.
