Who wants to see an icky picture? I’ve caught evidence of flat mites on my sedum nussbaumerium! πŸ’€πŸ¦Ÿ Using a digital microscope that magnifies 50x-1000x from Amazon, I spotted some flat mite eggs (and some flat mites, which I wasn’t able to get good pictures of). πŸ₯šπŸ”¬ The little red ovals are their eggs. On this plant, the eggs have exclusively been laid on nubby new growth. 🌱πŸͺ¦ The yellow coating you see in the other photo is the sulfur treatment I applied with a paintbrush. πŸ–ŒοΈπŸ’¨πŸ’¦ The sulfur is Bonide sulfur fungicide mixed with a few drops of water and reportedly is quick, safe, effective, and even beneficial to plants. Some people report speedy new growth after applying the sulfur treatment πŸͺ΄πŸ–€ #FlatMites #SedumNussbaumerium #SucculentLove #PestControl #Mites #MiteInfestation #Sulfur #Microscopic

Kinda gross but also pretty cool! Now I want a microscope.
@Herbologybadger Once I spotted them, I couldn’t look away πŸ˜… The microscope I got was on sale and was $13. I checked and it’s not on sale anymore, but you might be able to find other models for similar prices. I’ve also heard that flat mites are visible using a jeweler’s loupe or magnifying glass that magnifies 10x, but haven’t tried those myself.
I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for one.
So many of these eggs 😱
Great photos.
