Finally. She is starting to open. Just a few more days and I will have a full display. I hope. #orchidlovers #happyplants #dancingladyorchid #oncidium
Too cute
Ooh isit Sharry Baby? I have an in-vitro Onc. and I'm hoping it's either Sharry Baby or Twinkle
@SleekWhitebroom thank you 😊
@Araceae it is indeed a relative to the sharry baby, sharing a grandparent at least. And it has the twinkle as a parent.
If it is in vitro, shouldn't you know the specific hybrid it comes from? Or was it gifted without a tag?
@MusicalRedmint I bought it as 'Oncidium' AKA it's a mystery package
@Araceae Then that can be really anything, especially after the reclassification πŸ˜€ well, whatever it will be, I'm sure it will be beautiful and smell great
@MusicalRedmint yah based on the package, they seem to consider Oncidium and Oncidesa as one genus, so also prepared for that!
@Chevysgirl11 that's a great development. Congratulations
I may need to pick your brains for oncidium advice one day, if that would be okay? I have an oncidium twinkle that I adore and is very healthy but I’ve lost two other oncidiums - one was a Sharry Baby that had a bush snail and mealy bugs infestation when it came to me and was severely dehydrated due to root loss. The other had very few healthy roots. I won’t order from that nursery again as a result. I was too inexperienced with oncidiums to save them but it’s destroyed my confidence with them because I don’t know what was my doing - ie, the Sharry Baby also had a moss plug that I wasn’t aware of and because I kept it too moist, one of the pseudobulbs rotted - or if the problem was due to the plant’s condition. Yet I’m drawn to them so much as they are stunning and part of me doesn’t want to give up on them but then I don’t know if I just haven’t got the knack with them (apart from twinkles. I could fill a house with twinkles and be very happy!)
@MotherOfOrchids I'm not very good with them either, it seems. I mainly just follow MOGs advice on them as best I can (HP treatment for bushsnails, not too dry, etc). but this summer my small ones have been put through the wringer. Not counting the recently acquired intergenerics, I have 5. This one and another bigger one (tsiku Marguerite) are okay, great even. but I think that is because they just don't need much from me right now. However, the two cold growing species are near death after a long long fight, and the twinkle had massive leaf tip dieback this summer. With the twinkle it might just be the long period of higher temperature and I left it too dry once, but the species I feel I have not yet figured out (maybe temperature, maybe watering mistakes or maybe this is the killer fungus' work, I just don't know.) Maybe we can help each other out reciprocally. I dream of a happy twinkle like you describe πŸ˜€ mine has such gorgeous pink flowers, it really is a shame that it looks so ratty right now.
@Araceae sorry, I seem to have missed your previous post. Yeah, I guessed so. But the good thing is, they are all pretty πŸ˜‰ and since it's oncidium and oncidesa, it probably excludes all oncidium type intergenerics, so it really means "oncidium"
So pretty!!!! My Phal is doing so well im@considerinf getting a second orchid but I’m going to wait a bit as I’ve gotten A LOT of new plants lately and I don’t wanna drop the ball on the other newbies needs. Beautiful!!
Thank you, @LiftLashPlant . The other buds are opening a week now, and she gets prettier and prettier. And more fragrant. I'm glad your phal is doing well. I understand the problem only to well. Total plant embargo for me right now, as I've seriously stretched all possible limits during the last few months. I'll just fuss over the ones I've already got for now.
@GoddessSoftcane that sounds intriguing. Like a baby baby? In flask? Or like just a tiny baby in a pot from a nursery? No matter. I bet it was cute. I wish you much fun and patience with your little one. And eventually, happy blooms
@GoddessSoftcane Mine as well. As you can see from the pictures above, I got them too warm for a while, so I've placed them in the cooler spot right now (still 24C, ~75F) which means they can have only supplemental light from the sansis. I'm really running out of growlight space right now, though πŸ˜€ too many plants, too little light πŸ˜€ again: I wish you lots of patience and good luck
