@HerosJungle ooh!! I love them ππ± I only recently found out about goldfish plants, but now learning thereβs multiple types?? π€― I need one!! π Whatβs the difference between a black goldfish plant and a regular? Thank you for sharing the blooms π₯°
@DreamMachine
There are over 30 species and many cultivars of the Goldfish Plant, primarily divided into two main genera, Nematanthus and Columnea, both known for producing flowers that look like tiny goldfish. Nematanthus is generally more common, while Columnea offers distinct, often more trailing varieties.
Common Species and Cultivars
Nematanthus gregarius (previously N. radicans): Often simply called the Goldfish Plant; it has glossy leaves and orange flowers.
Columnea gloriosa: A popular trailing type with hairy leaves and red-orange blooms.
Nematanthus 'Tropicana': Known for its striped red and orange flowers.
Nematanthus 'Black Gold': Features dark green, red-tinged leaves with orange-yellow flowers.
Columnea 'Light Prince': A cultivar with variegated foliage.
Columnea x banksii: A popular hybrid known for its robust growth.
These plants, closely related to African Violets, are native to Brazil and other parts of Central/South America, thriving as houseplants with proper light.

I was given this as a birthday gift about 2 yrs. ago with a mini Ficus Triangalarus tree that made figs in the winter.
I wish I had the STRIPED kind.
