I know I've posted about him before, but a) he is still going strong (and look at him π) and b) he actually has developed his fragrance now. Upon checking this morning, I was surprised by a beautiful rose fragrance - strong enough to even reach my nose in spite of the massive cold I still have. I love my schillerianas ππππΈπΈπΈπΈπΈπΈπΈπΈπΈπΈπΈπΈπππ

@MusicalRedmint Wow those blooms as such a delicate pink (I can only imagine the scent ! ). Thanks so much for sharing Susann πππ
@Seymour thanks. The fragrance is about as delicate as the petals look. I absolutely love it. And I've only discovered it by accident since 5 days into the bloom I had already given up waiting for it. Now I'm really curious how long it will bloom and have me with that fragrance. AndI'm glad that I'm here for it.
@MusicalRedmint Hey Suzanne, I was just looking at some orchids. Have you ever bought tissue culture orchids ? When you see the photos you may understand why I ask.
Even for a competition I recently held, it is easier for me to distribute prizes in the USA then other countries (eg through the Greg Plant Shop or Amazon) but I wish it wasnβt the case.

@FieryOrchid76 thank you Heather π I never thought I would be so enamored by it myself. To be honest, I went for it for the leaves and the fragrance. But I love those petals.
Hey, @Seymour. No worries. I have never expected giveaways like this and rarely take part in them. it's all good π imagining the logistics and work etc of it alone gives me a headache by proxy - I'm a person who already balks at shipping one normal little package to... basically anybody π
it was just a surprise because before I think the EU was included if i remember correctly. And , to be honest, it was also more of a "ooooh that poster/card is nice. I would like me to have one of those" knee-jerk - reaction.π
As for the tissue culture, I'm pretty certain, at the very least most of the phal hybrids that you can buy normally are reproduced via tissue culture nowadays, since otherwise you wouldn't be able to clone them like this en masse with exactly the genes you want. The same goes for many of the sympodials in mass production, as far as i know, though in some cases, sellers still multiply their stock via separated backbulbs. And of course, relatively new hybrids or hybrids for which "that" special perfect specimen hasn't yet been found that should be cloned, are still propagated by seed.
Sorry, I'm rambling, maybe I've misunderstood the question. Or the science of it. The short answer is, yes, I'm relatively sure, about 90% of my orchids at least are from tissue culture. But whatever the case, those two beauties are very pretty, especially the first one. Are they again native to Australia? Or hybrids of Australian orchids?

@GenerousRedCap thank you π. Yes, he is.
@MusicalRedmint Hi Susann, I have only just seen your reply above and thanks as I didnβt know tissue culture was so popular in the orchid world but all that you say makes sense. They are both Australian orchids as I was looking for whatβs called Blue Lady Orchid after a recent post. Thanks again for taking the time to give me a great response ππ
Sorry, @Seymour, by now, you know how much I can drone on when it is about orchids. Yes , i could be off, but as I understand it it is very popular. Because you want exact replicas in appearance and vigor. Or just direct copies of prized orchids. And maybe because you would already need lab conditions even for normal seed propagation, so the step isn't that far, I guess. I saw your blue lady orchid post. Maybe at some point you will really have some nice blue vandas as well, seeing how you seem to like that color in flowers.
@MusicalRedmint Interesting Susann, I saw this first sale ( way above my pay grade!!!)

@Seymour Very beautiful and very interesting name. I never know which peloria is stable and which isn't. But the price is very understandable if this is one of the more durable ones and you might be the only one to clone it. π€
I sometimes stumble through the recent additions in my favorite nurseries and just put them on my "dream list" without paying attention. This way I sometimes notice the price afterwards in a big "eh, maybe pretty, but maybe not" moment π that happens a lot, especially with the blue ones. There are a few grey tetraspis hybrids that always get to me. But though their price at 50β¬ is not quite $ 400, I'm too stingy for even that.
The two most recent beautiful phals that I feel for in that vein were those I've attached, both priced at about 120β¬ π especially the lighter one is just so dang beautiful
