Hi Monica! @Artistic_Stoner Hope you are having a fantastic weekend! I just wanted to show you the little dude—I potted him up! Look at him in his tiny new apartment 🤣💚
I didn’t know how much perlite to use. I feel like I didn’t use enough. Do you have a ratio for perlite to soil for succulents? Also, I decided to hold off on getting succulents/cacti because it’s so cloudy and gloomy here. I ordered some grow lights instead. I plan on getting succulents/cacti after I get my grow lights because I don’t want them to etiolate, and I feel like they definitely would with this gloomy weather we’ve been having :/ Oh! I saw some white little thing growing out of another. Is that a root? There’s also what looks like a thread on another leaf. #OrangeGrass

@OrangeGrass the green house was an awesome investment mainly cause of the rain, I need to master temperature now! As a future gift, my husband said when we get a property he wants to get a bigger plexiglass greenhouse as a house warming gift, im convinced he’s tricked me into thinking IM the one who owns these plants 😂 im ALWAYS in that thing, even for how small it is if no one can find me, I’m in there 💃
@Littleplants123 Aren’t they?! They are so much easier to grow than tropical houseplants 😂
Oh my gosh look at him🥹 hope you are having a great weekend & had a wonderful Thanksgiving 🤍 if you don’t feel you used enough, just keep an eye on the top soil, if it isn’t starting or looks anymore dry after 2 days you can add more! I do a 3 part soil, 1 part perlite & 1 part pumice, all using the same cup/container. Hope that helps 😅 that’s not a bad idea, I feel you on not wanting them to elongate lol. I need to wait in anymore too till after this cold, had to safety pin sheets & blankets together for the greenhouse to trap in the heat 😒 but yes those look like roots to me.. yay !!!
@Artistic_Stoner I did! I hope you did as well! 💚 Oh! He’s already dry. I watered him on Nov 30th. Is that fast enough? Now I feel like I’ve added too much perlite 🤔 Oh wow, you have a greenhouse? I’d love to see if you don’t mind showing me what it looks like. A greenhouse is honestly goals! Is yours well insulated now that you’ve added pins and blankets? 😊 Omg! I’m gonna have more succulents! I need to buy more terracotta pots!
@OrangeGrass No that’s great, that’s what you want! They absorb what they need quickly, so if it dries out in 2 days you’re golden! It’s only a 6x8 portable one, but I live in Florida where summers we always get sporadic rain, & since I accumulated so freaking many I was exhausted hauling them in my plant cart to put them under the rv lol. They started to get mad & elongate cause I couldn’t keep moving them back into the sun. The blankets kinda help, keeps it at least 4-5 degrees warmer but I got up at 5am & saw my gh thermometer was 37 😳 was tempted to get a little heater but then I don’t want to worry about condensation dripping on them cause that’ll kill them quick!! After Wednesday it says it’ll be out of the 30s for a while here so I won’t worry too much till it starts dropping again.
@Artistic_Stoner So, does that mean I should water it every 2-3 days? Sorry if I’m asking dumb questions. I just want to make sure I’m watering at the correct frequency. Omg! I love your setup! Lol, I can imagine having to move your babies back and forth because of rain ☔️ Managing a greenhouse sounds like a lot of work. You’ve done a great job! Do you plan on upgrading your setup to better cope with rain and fluctuations in temperature? Do you get winter temps where you live in Florida? And lmao! Your hubby has carefully masterminded the entire gardening ploy! You two are cute! Honestly goals ♥️ Aww, it’s your oasis right? I get that. I’m excited for you guys to get a glass greenhouse!
@OrangeGrass no not necessarily, I know a lot of people say water when the soil is bone dry, it’s a GREAT rule to keep from rot but doesn’t mean they need or want it. Some succulents like my poor dark Vader can get edema(when the plant has absorbed more water then it can retain & will burst the cells of the plant leaving ugly spots all over it..). That’s personally why I use a watering journal, since I’ve started that I’ve had NO problems. I’ll inspect a plant, if it looks thirsty I’ll check the soil with a bamboo stick, if it’s dry I’ll look at when the last time I watered it was & if it’s been over a week I’ll water it. I do it in that order cause unfortunately overwatering looks similar to underwatering 🤦🏼♀️ I have to water some things today so I’ll see if I can do a before & after pictures. I’ll also try to find the video I thought, explained what to look for if it needs water. What I’ve observed is thicker the leaves the less water they need. So I’d stick with every 4-6 till it’s established in his pot & eventually cut back a little more when it’s more mature. & thank you 🥰 it’s my oasis & my serenity, forsure! Hope you get one one day!!! I wont update for a better one till we get a property, but this one so far has been great through the rain & so far so good with the cold.. I was born & raised where I live so I’m not too sure in what winter temps are, but when it gets below 40s here the real Florida cracker comes outta me 🤣 our average is I think 40s but the north every now & again pushes that front to us, this year feels colder then the last couple too! That made my heart smile about goals 🥹 he is the bomb.com, he’d be the first to tell you my succulents helped me to leave depression behind, haha I got a man that enables my plant addiction!
@Artistic_Stoner Omg! I had no idea… so, how do I recognize when a succulent needs water? I thought they would be watered like tropical houseplants… if it’s not for you, I’m sure I’d be well on my way to killing the tiny succulents 😵💫 tysm! I really do appreciate your help! How do I know when the plant is established in the pot? Succulents have such short, tiny roots. How much do they need to grow to be considered established? Oh! You’ve always been in Florida? I heard FL has a somewhat tropical weather? What’s a Florida cracker? Lol. Sorry, I’m not familiar 🙈 Yeah, this year definitely feels colder and I’m not a fan :( I love that your hubby is so supportive and encouraging of something that has clearly helped you make a difference within yourself! Who wouldn’t want to see you happy, right? ♥️
@OrangeGrass you’ll know it needs water from shriveling leaves, sometimes the leaves will lose their “shine”, they will start to suck the water from bottom leaves, flexible/soft leaves.. there’s actually multiple ways 😅 but no they don’t need water like tropicals, way less water in fact! You’ll also know it is established if you tug it up like you’re going to pull it out of the pot, if it gives it’s not established, if it won’t tug up it is. It established in my opinion when it doesn’t feel loose in the pot, means it’s got a good root system going. I’m always happy to help, don’t hesitate to ask anything ever! You got little unrooted succulents to root already, give yourself some credit girl!! Only 2 places I’ve lived besides Florida is Belgium(moms ex husband was in military) & Texas. Other than that I’ve grown to LOVE where I grew up & don’t want to leave lol. I live on the west coast, so best fishing ever 😍 a Florida cracker is someone who was born & raised in Florida, so there is no cold in my blood hehe 🤭 & thank you for that, he truly is the best friend I ever have had, you don’t know when you’re younger how important that is! Shoot, I forgot to look up that video of “when to know your succulent is thirsty”, I’ll look for that!
@OrangeGrass here’s a good example of thirst by it sucking the water from the bottom leaves.. some would jump that by the way it looks it’s sunburn, but sunburn would target any part of the plant not just the bottom leaves
@Artistic_Stoner you’re going to have to scroll through cause I accidentally forgot to tag you in the other comments, but I hope this for now is a good visual help!! My rules for myself watering: 1.As long as the soil didn’t stay wet for more then 3 days 2. use a bamboo skewer & make sure dry all the way through 3. Check watering journal for last time it was watered, if over 7 days I’ll water it ONLY showing signs it is thirsty.. don’t be afraid to UNDERwater, it’s way easier to rehab then a plant that is overwatered & has rot. Still going to try to find that video..
@Artistic_Stoner also, why it’s okay to underwater to add from above, that’s why they have shallow root systems, they naturally live in extreme droughts so even if it’s just a sprinkle of rain the root system they have allows them to get the water they need if that all makes sense.. I have found out if you understand succulents & the natural environment, they CAN be easy lol
@OrangeGrass found it!! Along with my watering rules, this video helped me SO much. I also love her videos cause so many are helpful ☺️

@Artistic_Stoner OH! You got it! Thank you! I have not been able to figure what type of plant this little one is, lol.
@OrangeGrass No problem at all! It just so happens when I was snooping for succulents I came across this fella, so I had to take a screenshot because I felt like this was it! just thinking of you, hope your little baby is doing well, & also yourself 🤍
