@pelssy Yep, Iβd say itβs propagation oβclock, stat!β¦That yellowing + softening near the base looks like early rot or fungal breakdown!possibly from overwatering or poor airflow. The white patches might even be a secondary infection (could be fungal hyphae or even mealybugs if theyβre fuzzy up close)β¦. Best move? Take a healthy, firm pad from the top and cut it clean with a sterile blade. Let it callus for 5β10 days (super dry spot, no moisture!) before potting it in dry, gritty cactus mix. Donβt water until roots start forming from my experienceβ¦usually 2β3 weeks in warm weather. Sheβs gonna make it, and sheβs gonna come back strongerβ¦
Your prickly pear definitely needs more Sun and less water.
To propagate "the ear" LOL, just twist it off and let it rest in shade for 3 weeks. Then put it in dry succulent soil, in shade, do not water for 2 weeks. Then put in dappled Sun and keep giving 2 teaspoons of (rain or distilled) water, around the base but not on the plant, every 3 days for 1 month. Then 3 teaspoons of water every 4 days for 2 months. After that the plant will have grown roots, and you can start bottom watering once every 10 days, when the soil is completely dry.
