Hi Marian, I’ve been spending a lot of time working on a butterfly garden. I’ve purchased plants for it like milkweed and Florida paintbrush. Most of that I’m growing from seed. Right now it’s just a long stretch of dirt with a few plants in it. As it progresses, I will post photos. I hope you are well.
Wow!!! Look at those roots, and so tall!! That must have been a bugger to repot. Good job Marian! I’m sure he will be thanking you with lots of new growth. 🥰 I’ve been putting off staking my BMF… I really don’t want to do a moss pole (maintenance, yuck), but feeling like I may have to give in since those Climb Itt poles have been out of stock for forever. Maybe one day I’ll catch some of your gumption! 🙂
@MariansOasis Holy Cow! What a gorgeous Rubber tree 😍🤩😍😍 You did’nt say what size the original pot he was in before you repotted him nor what size the new pot is now?? Or is it the same size/pot with new soil? And did you manage this on your own or did you have help? Was it very a messy affair? I’m asking because I have been avoiding a similar situation with my Cornstalk plant. Needs a bigger pot for sure it keeps toppling over twice now!
@luvmygreenhouse oh he was!! His sub lateral roots were winding around 🌀 the top. He seems happier now he can stretch out some 😆

My daughter gave me the ficus 2022 and it was in a 6” nursery pot. I then went to an 8” a couple of years ago it seems. Now this 10”. I loosened as much of the soil off and used fresh soil. Made it a mix of succulent soil, regular soil, perlite and added some fine coco coir to retain moisture but still have airflow. My husband helped today, definitely glad for that because getting it out of the pot would’ve been harder on the plant without the extra hands. It wasn’t surprisingly messy! I laid out two potting mats on the garage floor. Some mix spilled off the mats but nothing the hubs couldn’t sweep up 😝 🧹.

It always seems like Saturdays are a big watering day at my oasis. I get some done during the week, but always a lot more on Saturday and Sunday. Topped off the water in my newest propagation projects: Albo Pothos and Manjula pothos. Hopefully, someone will get a planty Christmas gift. Also, here’s my Albo pothos after my attempt at staking.

@RefinedSandwort that Manjula pothos is so pretty!! 😍 When I was working I got so much done on the weekends probably because if I didn’t, I knew I’d be too tired to do anything during the week! 😅
@MariansOasis Some days I water one or two before I leave for work and other days, I don’t have time to even think about it before I leave!
@MariansOasis wow Marian!! What a task, and Holy Roots Batman 👀🤯 He looks like he’ll settle in nicely to his new digs, and awww 🥹 what a cutie patootie BEFORE before pic!! The new pot looks like a much better size. I’m kind of laughing because right now that’s what my ginger plant looks like compared to his pot. I really need to repot…or just put him outside in the ground 🤪
@Jho are those Climb-itt poles out of stock now?? I wondered. Have you ever thought about just doing a piece of wood? I haven’t as of yet, but I’m seriously considering it, especially since monstera, pothos, etc will literally attach themselves to your walls if you let them. The idea of moss pole maintanence just isn’t my procrastination-wheelhouse 😅
@DreamMachine lol your ginger plant is amazing!! It’s funny how at the beginning of the year the ficus roots were a bit noticeable and then bam 💥 they’re crawling out of the pot!! Also for whatever reason I tend to not check in on my larger plants as much as the younger or more dramatic ones. Guess it’s the squeaky wheel 🛞 syndrome 😆

@DreamMachine You’re absolutely right that Pothos will attach themselves to anything. I have one sitting on a bookshelf, it’s wood with glass shelves. I was watering it a few days ago as I tried to move this very long branch and it didn’t want to let go of the wooden back. I might have to move it to another spot! Question is where to ??
@DreamMachine yeah, they finally made a web store to buy direct instead of playing hide and seek at Home Depot, but they’re all sold out. I put my email in for notification when back in stock, but not a peep fo months. That’s a great reminder about the wood plank, thanks. I read about it before but it seems things are in one ear and out the other lately. I agree about moss maintenance. Ain’t got time for that. 🙅♂️😂 That ginger plant is huuuuuuuge! Wish we all could do a repotting party together; that would be the oomph needed. @MariansOasis I keep telling them, we need at least 3 plants that need repotting before we drag out all the supplies. If one plant wants a repot, he’d better talk to his friends and get them on board. 😂
