These are my two newest Hoyas. The first is a sunrise and the second is an inner variegated. If I remember correctly, they like to be “snug,” is the sunrise in need of a larger pot? #TheWateringHole @DreamMachine @SuperbRaspfern @Ponytailmom @MariansOasis

@HolyLacealoe that is correct! Both hoyas probably won’t need to be repotted for a while, due to pot size. Of course, if the soil isn’t proper for them, then I would recommend repotting them into a better substrate but into the same pot size. Hoyas need a very airy chunky mix, i have only ever received one out of 40 hoyas that were actually in a proper mix. 😅

@HolyLacealoe Anna, sooo exciting!! Yes, they love being snug in a pot👍 and they’re not crazy about being disturbed. I basically keep them in the same pot I get them in for about 2 years or more (assuming the medium was appropriate to begin with 😊). Now if it’s a very small one and it really takes off then I up-pot. I agree with Nadia @DreamMachine that they won’t need to go into a bigger pot for a while. Some of mine I’ve given fresh soil and put back in same pot. I’ve seen on Reddit where people have heirloom Hoyas that they’ve never repotted or up-potted, like in the same container grandma always had it in. And some so big they could never move it without harming it!! Crazy 🤪
@DreamMachine , heuschkeliana! That’s it! 👍🥳 Now I have to look up the pronunciation of it! I wouldn’t say they feel like suede , they aren’t fuzzy. And they aren’t waxy feeling either. 🤷♀️ Either way, I love them 💚and can’t wait to find perfect spots in our new place.
@HolyLacealoe yeah 🙌 one of my top favorites!! I’m not sure if this is correct 🤷♀️ but I pronounce it, and I’ve heard others pronounce it like “HOOSH-Kelly-ahnah.” …. 🤔 or thereabouts 😂 We’ve got no Latin speakers to ask 🤷♀️
That looks like you got some kind of pon mix for that one! It is very good for hoverers 😉 But it will need to be watered quite often. Might be something like every 3-5 days would be my guess!

@DreamMachine , okay so if I were to add something to make my time in between watering longer what should I add? I don’t mind 5, but I live in CA and my plants are all needing water more frequently.
@DreamMachine , okay 👍 thanks!😊 I also wanted to ask you hoya aficionados if you’ve tried foliage feeding? I saw a video on hoya care tips that recommended it. She said she noticed a difference when it came to her slow growing ones especially. 🤷♀️
@HolyLacealoe were you watching UPT? 😅 I have not really dabbled in that. Too messy for me indoors, but if I’m ever bringing one to the sink to water I will. So, I guess that’s not enough to notice a big difference.
But I’ll tell you what though, the majority of my hoyas are all very fast growers, and I believe it’s because I water them more frequently than most people recommend. I also have them in a pretty chunky mix of 2/3 coco husk chips and 1/3 coco coir. I feel like they’ve been done a raw deal when people relate them to succulents. They are, don’t get me wrong, but they are rainforest succulents, and where they live it’s usually raining every day and they’re quickly climbing massive trees and the like. So I do not wait as long as letting the soil to dry out 100%. (Except for 1 or 2) I aim to water my hoyas, on average, when they are 80-90% dry. 👌

@HolyLacealoe @DreamMachine I use filtered water on all of my plants because we’re lucky enough to have a whole house filter. Wanted to make sure @DreamMachine saw this question since she wasn’t tagged! Your hoyas are beautiful!
@MamaLinne thanks Deb! 😊 @HolyLacealoe I am actually lucky enough to live in an area with excellent tap water.💦 So that is what I use. 30ppm and my brita filter gets it down to 20ppm. In the long dark wet (autumn, winter, spring) I collect plenty of rainwater.

@HolyLacealoe @MamaLinne oh and yes, you are right! The heuschkeliana does not have suede leaves. They kind of feel to me what “matte” sounds like it feels like in my head 🤣 Does that make ANY sense?

I’ve struggled with my heuschkeliana! Yours looks like it has a great start!
