@DreamMachine, you know who might know? She’s got a lot of good begonias knowledge. She helped me with mine. But you could ask if she knows? Never hurts to ask. Nadie to have any ideas of the name of this one? I know there are a lot that look similar, so I’m terrible at it. 🤣🤦♀️
@EagerMakura13 wait it looks happy? REALLY? I thought it could get better and pinker thank you!!! 🥹
@Idplantthat yeah same I found begonia Rex kotobuki, stardust or wtv , evening glow and a raspberry one and lemme tell you. I cannot find ONE single difference between them so I rlly need that info thank you 🙏🏻
Oh good, yeah, to be honest I’m not even sure how many of them are different from each other. Ha ha ha and if it is a generally a subtle difference or flower color. For instance my black begonia has very sweet very soft pink flowers or one of my spiked begonias grows green flowers with red veins, to again, another orange and red varieties it goes white. I think I’ve bought a few before and I honestly bought two at the same time and both looked pretty much identical.. and yet I was told they were two different plants. So I’m not even sure if sellers always know. 🤣 in a very long way, it’s completely normal to be confused with begonias. But honestly, ask Nadia, @DreamMachine she truly has an amazing ability to help and identify some that can be quite tricky. She also has great advice on care.
@Shells_Garden I searched the names and they don’t look like mine tbh 😕
@BlingBling check out this video on YouTube and see if it helps with the identity. https://youtu.be/m-YfFYiWauM?si=bokadQl-O8gxP8RY
@Idplantthat awww thanks Rachel. You are just the sweetest 🥰🥹 @BlingBling I am by no means a begonia variety expert 😆 I’m sure there are some specialists, but Rex begonias have over 4,000 😳recorded cultivars and varieties, and people are hybridizing, and making new ones all the time! so it’s akin to finding a needle in a haystack. 😅
Maybe a bit of background would help? Where did this one come from? A nursery, store, or online maybe? If it was a shop, perhaps you could ask them who grows the begonias they sell and then inquire there?
If no one here know for sure, I would post again in a while after it’s grown in and settled more ☺️
This was the one you posted about several weeks back, right? I will say you’ve done a GREAT job in rehabbing! 👏 👏 I don’t see anymore edema water spots or leaf edge browning 🙌 🏆 Keep up the good work!

@BlingBling @Idplantthat the begonia in the bottom right corner of this pic is called ‘ideal red heart.’ Does it look right?
And keep in mind that I don’t think you’ll find an exact match with your rehab the way it is now, still recovering from being overwatered at the store. That can make them look washed out.

@DreamMachine girl I’m flattered fr but it’s new leaves are silver ngl 😭 That’s why I’m trying to find what begonia this is. It came from a nursery but they didn’t label it. Got it from a supermarket and yes that’s the one I posted in April and I’m surprised that you remember it 💜🙏🏻
@BlingBling from what you can tell, do you think the new leaves are supposed to be silver? Because there are quite a lot of begonias that have that silver in them. Regardless of what color it should be, the new leaves can still show signs of their old stress that happened before you got them, for a while. It’s normal for new leaves to not suddenly look 💯, it might take some time. What kind of light do you have them in now? Sometimes plants’ colors can appear faded and washed out when it isn’t getting enough light either. But I think, with yours, it got too much water for the substrate it’s in. If the soil holds too much water then those edema/watery brown leaf spots can happen, and that is VERY easy to do once a plant in its nursery soil is back home with us.
Have you repotted it? Because from what I can see of the soil, it looks like it might be primary a peat or coco coir mix. Which are fine to include in certain amounts. But begonias do require much more aeration and drainage ingredients—like perlite, orchid bark, pumice, coco chips, so that water drains well out of the soil, and make sure there are air pockets without so the roots can breathe too. I’d recommend repotting as the next step for you. Just be very gentle and extra careful because begonias have delicate, fragile root systems, and they do not like being repotted…even when they need it! and after you repot, the whole plant might flop over in a fuss. I’m just telling you this so you can be prepared. 😅 😮💨 After repotting, put them in a place that has stable temperatures, warm but not hot, and no cold drafts, that has good lighting. After I did this, all of my begonias that threw a “repotting fit” recovered nicely.
I looked up your climate, and believe it or not, it is very similar to my own climate in NW Oregon 😅 So this is a good basic mix to start with for when you do repot, for both our climates:
-1/3 coco coir, OR peat, OR store bought potting mix
-1/3 perlite
-1/3 orchid bark
The second two ingredients are not set in stone, but you want to achieve the same kind of ratio, with 1/3 of your mix being moisture retaining, like coir, and 2/3 being chunky irregular bits that ensure it’s well draining and aerated.
Good luck, good job 👏 and please tag me for future updates, and lol yes I do remember. My mind is like a steel trap for anything begonia, hoya, calathea, or orchid related 😂 Feel free to tag me too if you need any other help! I love begonias and I am always happy to be of assistance 🥰

Till Nadia @DreamMachine said, “Look at the stores; I didn’t know that at all!” Here, this store has some ones I’d never heard of. They might have one, or maybe you could email them and ask how or what the best way to identify it is? I’ve bought a few from them, and they have great ones. I think Nadia said once they are close to her? https://www.etsy.com/shop/BearFootFarmsLLC but definitely check it out as a resource if nothing else. ☺️😉
@Idplantthat LOL 😂 My motto is always ‘work smarter, not harder,’ 😂
And yes! That shop is (relatively) close to me 😄 And when I opened that page, the second begonia was the Jurassic rex ‘pink splash.’ Demeter @BlingBling does this one look right?

@DreamMachine I’m scared to repot itttt 😭😭😭 also nah it doesn’t have these little veins on the leaves I think the photo I took was not that clear wait
@BlingBling well, it’s pretty unlikely that you’re going to find an exact match…because with the thousands of cultivars, the same one can appear different when grown in different conditions. That is, yours might very well be that Jurassic pink splash, but because it didn’t have ideal conditions it might not have those darker veins around the margins yet. Does that make sense?
For now I would pick the closest one you can find, since all rex begonias have similar care requirements, and continue helping them recover. 🤗

@DreamMachine @PetPlants okay I think the closest one is the kotobuki one we’ll see I guess 😭🥀
