Okay all, I am wondering if I should wait until closer to fall to repot my two monstera. (Monsteri?) Iβm also in need of different support. I have the plastic D curve, but my pothos almost died when I had it in the pot. π€·ββοΈ May have been due to user error admittedly! Last, in my monstera deliciosa, where should I place the new support? Thank you for your time and knowledge in advance. π @MariansOasis @princesspitstop #MonsteraMonday
Good morning Anna @HolyLacealoe βοΈ Monsteri lol π π Hey, Iβm not a monstera person at all! Youβve tagged @princesspitstop already so I will tag some more experts @DreamMachine @MamaLinne @debbiedo @ILoveMyPlants @Ms.Persnickety @AwesomePlants @stephonicle Itβs typically best to repot during active growing season but I repot any time of year. Especially in CA where we have more temperate weather. And our plants are inside in great sunny spots or under grow lights. So I say repot when the plant πͺ΄ needs it π
I agree with @MariansOasis , no need to wait, this is the time of year when you want to do any repotting in the northern hemisphere. But for indoor plants, they don't really subscribe to the seasonal restrictions of outdoor plants anyway! Can you explain what you mean by "D curve"? I'm not familiar with that term. Sphagnum moss supports are best, but higher maintenance because they have to be kept moist. But aerial roots attach more easily and naturally to the sphagnum moss. Placing support poles while repotting is ideal because there's minimal root damage.
Can you also explain a bit more about what happened to your pothos that almost died?

@HolyLacealoe also wanted to add that your Monstera standleyana looks like it has a bit of mold on the soil. That's a sign it's staying too damp. One thing that's likely playing a role is having the plastic pot inside the glazed clay pot. This set up restricts airflow to the soil and will prevent it from drying out quickly enough. You can scrape the top inch or two of soil off the top and replace it with fresh soil. If you want to do the cache pot set up, make sure there's a gap between the two pots to allow for airflow π
@HolyLacealoe @MariansOasis (thanks for the tag) gave you good advice, Iβll expand a bit.
The best time to repot a Monstera is early spring or during its active growth phase in summer, as this allows for faster recovery. Repot every 2β3 years, or when roots are tightly circling the bottom, using a pot only 1β2 inches larger in diameter. Support (like a moss pole) should be placed behind the main stem, where the aerial roots emerge.

@HolyLacealoe here's a drawing I made a while back showing how to correctly attach a monstera to a support pole π It's important to only tie the main stem to the pole, not the petioles.
@stephonicle You are a wonderful artist by the way π I took a screenshot of your drawing a while back so I can reference it if I ever needed it. π₯°
@princesspitstop Oh Heidi, you are too kind βΊοΈ And rather generous with the word "wonderful" lol. Thank you love, I'm so glad someone has found it useful! π₯°
