Splitting success with pink diamond echeveria

Update on sedi the split rock 🪨 all three of them are currently splitting even the one to the right that I never thought would! The smallest one has been weird (started pushing one out) but just recently also started pushing it out. Not sure what will happen but I’m so glad I’ve been able to keep them happy! Also #PlantShelfie (‘s) taken recently 🌱✨🤩 I’ve been having some rotting issues lately with a couple plants, two of them it was too far gone before I noticed. I also have an Echeveria ‘pink diamond’ named pinky that has been suspicious since I got it, I recently noticed the roots were too wet, and it looks like the stem is starting to turn dark at the very bottom but it’s hard to tell for sure. I don’t have any photos but could I cut the base of stem & prop? How do you prevent rotting for Echeverias specifically? Sometimes they can be tricky for me. I use teracotta only and bottom watering method, but lately I’ve been concerned about the ratio I should be using. I add perlite but I’m thinking maybe more ? Can you use regular grit sand instead of coarse ? Or does that defeat the purpose ? Any suggestions would be great ! 🙌🏻💚✨🪴 #Echeveria #HappyPlants #PlantInfo soilMix">#soilMix #PropagationStation #SucculentSquad #SucculentLove #Succulents #SplitRock

Hi there! If you are looking for a good addictive for your succulent soil, I highly recommend Bonsai Jack’s gritty mix. I add it to my miracle grow cacti soil along with some perlite and it’s perfect! I’ve tried other rock mediums from Lowe’s/Home Depot and always end up coming back to this stuff! Another tip I use for my succulents to prevent root rot/overwatering is on watering day for any of my succulents, I stick a popsicle stick in the soil. If soil is stuck to the stick or it’s cool to the touch, there is enough water in pot and I skip watering. If the stick is dry, I water!

Hope these tips help - good luck! 🪴🌱
I have my split rocks in bonsai jack gritty mix with a little succulent soil mixed in. How often do you water yours? Mine dropped their lower leaves but they haven’t started to split yet. I’ve only been watering maybe 1x a month and I wonder if I’m doing ok with them. They were a random lowes find months ago and I just had to buy them.
@KDkat3 I need to get some bonsai jack asap , I actually use succulent soil with perlite added, I have only watered it when it’s been wrinkly, and that’s happened on maybe two occasions. I barely water it. I bottom watered one time, and dropped maybe three or four water bottle caps full, on the top on one other occasion, careful not to get foliage or anything super wet. A little water seems to go a long way for them, I never expected the second or third one to split but it did 😅 from what I understand they need those bottom leaves to split properly because (it seems like) that’s where they get a majority of their moisture from,
Thank you! Very helpful!!
