@DreamMachine oh good. Thank you. Her pot is a little on the small side. Can I put her in water till she gets bigger. The only orchid pot I have is 8 inches.
@planthoe40 do you mean only water and no substrate? It’s totally possible! I have several phalaenopsis orchids in a semi-water culture, and it can be done, with caveats. @PerkyGrasspea80 Brian, I’m tagging you too just in case you would like to know.
1- I put my semi-water culture orchids in clear glass jars (like mason jars) that are just big enough to comfortable hold the roots, because the roots have the green pigment chlorophyll, and can photosynthesize too.
2- You only put a little bit of water in the jar. Do *not* FILL the jar with water, and make sure the water does *not* touch the stem of the plant, or the leaves. I only put either enough water so that the bottom third, or less, of the ROOTS are touching the water.
3- when the water has been used/evaporated and the jar is empty, then you can add the same amount of water to the jar again.
4- on watering day, when the jar is empty, I will fill up the jar briefly (not so high as to touch the stem, crown, or leaves!), to let the roots soak for ~20 minutes, and then I pour almost all the water out again, leaving only an inch or two remaining in the jar.

@planthoe40 is that just bark? She might not have enough humidity around her roots in that set up. 🤷♀️ the bark won’t hold on to much moisture, but if you’re okay with frequent watering when you see the roots are silver it might work?
@DreamMachine ok so silver roots means water. Ok. I thought they just went in bark. That's why I took that other stuff off of her when I got her.
