@Miawilliams Hello! I would say most of them are pretty easy going until you get into the thinner leaves Hoyas.
The Hoyas that’s are heartier are usually more resilient to either over or under watering or the wrong lighting conditions. Example: do not start with the Hoya Lisa. It’s one of the fussiest Hoyas of all times. The Hoya Carnosa is extremely forgiving! Also I would not spend on rare Hoyas until you understand them, they are similar to succulents but do require more water and where most pole go wrong is the pot size, small and condensed they love to be root bound!
What I love about Hoyas is they litteraly will tell you when there are thirsty, no games , touch the leaves and you’ll know! ;)

@Louisxvi beautiful hoyas!! I too, am very deep into obsession. Have you watched Miro from Basie Plants on YT? One of my fav hoya channels, he’s so funny and has the chaotic dry wit I just adore, interspersed with extremely useful knowledge and background history of hoyas.
@Miawilliams @maci.in.bloom @Alucen @Slyvie Karine is right, there are definitely heartier and more delicate hoyas, although I would say my australis Lisa is actually one of my most chill plants. I might have a different clone though. Mine is pretty thick leaved and doesn’t fuss. 🤷♀️ My H. ‘Bella’ is fussy, only if I forget to keep the water coming!
I also 100% agree that they are similar to succulents but for the most part you don’t want them to go 100% dry. They just stop growing. You’ll hear people say they are slow growers, but I believe that’s just because they don’t water them enough. I aim to water mine when they are about 90% dry. ALTHOUGH. There are hoyas from drier habitats and hoyas from wetter climates that never want to dry out! Example: hoya Bella, one of my all time favs and most early bloomer will start dropping leaves if she dries out even a little more than she likes. But she is an early bloomer so I don’t care, I love her. She was my first flower 🥹🥹🌸🌸🌸 You just have to research where your particular hoya is from to figure it out.
Hoya obsession starts small. You hear people talk about them and think, ‘what’s the big deal? I don’t get it.’ But then you pick one up ,maybe, if you see it in a shop, say, Hoya sp aff burtoniae (variegated) for example. And unexpectedly, you have an emotional support hoya with fuzzy suede leaves that you can pet. 😱 Suddenly, you blink and you have 45 hoyas, and no recollection of how they got there. …And THEN, maybe a year or two down the line, they start blooming!!! 😱🌻😮💨🥰🌸🌼🌺🪻🌹🌷😱
