Peperomia propagation tips and success

Let’s talk Peperomia Propagation!
I think these little guys are amazing! You can prop them from a stem cutting, leaf cutting and even half leaf cuttings πŸ₯Ή I thought I’d share with you all my most successful way to propagate Peperomia…the spaghnum moss prop box!
Make a layer of moist (not wet, squeeze it out first) spaghnum moss inside a clear plastic box. Lay cuttings on top, no need to bury really. I don’t bother letting them callus really, but you can if you’re used to doing so! I have propped many varieties so far, none have failed yet (100% success rate) I’ve added some pictures of Peperomia in various stages and cut in different ways to show you where roots come from. Peperomia roots are super fine, that’s a reason why they are very prone to root rot. I usually leave my peperomia in here until they create their first leaf or babies. I hope this helps anyone struggling with these guys. I’ve had 50/50 success with water props, they can work but I find they take longer and can be risky. Prop boxes very rarely need water, so they’re pretty much hands free too! πŸ˜ƒ #TipsandTricks #Peperomia #Propagation #PropagationStation #sphagnummoss #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth
More peps
love the variety in your prop box!! i almost got a peperomia pink lady once but her neighbors didn’t look too healthy so i didn’t wanna risk bringing any pests or fungus into my house, she was gorgeous tho! you keep inspiring me to get new plants lmao, first the hoya and now the peps
@strawberrymoon I love having lots mixed up looks like a forest floor and it’s always exciting to see who can come out to be potted up) and make room for more props haha)
That’s a shame! Pink lady’s are gorgeous πŸ₯Ή I have extreme luck in finding broken peperomia leaves in stores. That would be an awesome find πŸ˜…
I’m not surprised I have for you into them being a succulent lover! Both Hoya and peperomia are as close to succulents as you can get! Both need little water but like good light. Most have fleshy thick leaves that hold a lot of water. It’s a nice progression into different plants 😁 It always starts off with one…then the additions come rapidly πŸ˜…
I got my watermelon peperomia from 2 leaves! Or half of 2 leaves. I cut the leaf in half, stuck the stem part in dirt and put the second half cut side down into the dirt. It took forever to root but I think cuz it was cold. It took off over the summer 😊

I never thought about having a peperomia prop box. I have a decent amount of peperomia too!
@ManyLime That’s fantastic 🀩I have some watermelon in my prop box I can’t wait for them to root and grow! They can definitely take a long time from leaf I have found stem cutting to be very fast in comparison. Ooo I can’t wait to see if you make a pep prop box πŸ₯Ή I think that this can be great for those who are losing their peperomia and a last chance to save them. Or just lucky enough to get a leaf or two πŸ˜ƒ
@HoyaAddict omg you’re right lol, i just realized!! they’re like halfway between a succulent and a regular houseplant πŸ’•πŸ’• i hope i can find some pep leaves on the floor soon, the plant store i usually go to has some watermelon peps πŸ‘€πŸ‘€ it’s a big place so they don’t really care if customers take the ones on the floor, i already have a couple sedum leaf props from them haha
@strawberrymoon I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you! πŸ₯°
@HoyaAddict thank you!! πŸ’•πŸ’•
